anyone ever had their chest crack? i was working today, went to lift something and my chest made a cracking soung - like if you would crack your back. for a few mintues it hurt to lift things but then it went away. and again i was just sitting here and i forced my shoulders back and it cracked again - there was no pain this time. can your chest crack like your back? or am i in need of a doctors visit???

I would recommend having it checked to be safe.

I've had cracking sounds come from my chest before. Usually seems to be the sternum. Never was painful though. You should probably have it checked out just in case.

This has happened to me a few times.
I wouldn't worry too much (unless of course your fingers are numb and you start exhaling blood - then run to an emergency room ASAP)
You might actually feel a bit looser after the crack.

well i looked online some more and i believe it is my sternum that is cracking. i seem to remember this has happened before but with no pain. i hurt my chest on sunday when i was working - doing alot of twisting with 20+ lbs of weight. its about time for my yearly physical so i will ask the doctor about it.

I think that is very prudent, it's better to be safe than sorry. Just be sure to write down all that you want to ask your physician so that you don't forget anything.

my chest cracks every now and then. Strange feeling but doesn't hurt at all. That is the part I would be concerned about.

yeah it worries me too - and of course anytime i have anything remotely wrong with me i always think its the worst. maybe its this
Costochondritis. In this condition — also known as Tietze's syndrome — the cartilage of your rib cage, particularly the cartilage that joins your ribs to your breastbone, becomes inflamed. The pain from costochondritis (kos-toe-KHON-dri-tis) may occur suddenly and be intense, leading you to assume you're having a heart attack. Yet the location of the pain is different. Costochondritis causes your chest to hurt when you push on your sternum or on the ribs near your sternum. Heart attack pain is usually more widespread, and the chest wall usually isn't tender.
who knows - nice to know you all if i die

The cracking sensation might be coming from your spine. Your spinal column is quite deep in your body, and you may be misinterpreting a disk problem as a chest sensation.

My chest cracks all the time, of course it's not so much my chest as my lung lining popping as I have pleurisy (inflammation of the lining of the lungs) due to being alergic to smoke, and still smoking.

I had something like that once. In fact, I think I have what you're talking about. My sternum hurt and hurt bad. I rolled over the wrong way while wrestling with my son and cracked a rib and my sternum. It made a weird sound for a while. What you're hearing or feeling is probably a rib - that's what they told me at the doctor's office the next day.
The best way to tell if it's your sternum is stand up straight, put your arms in front of you and place your palms together and push against your palms. This flexes the muscles in the area of the sternum and focuses the stress in the middle of your sternum. If it hurts and hurts bad, and deep, it's your sternum. That's how mine felt.
It went away after about two weeks. Just be careful, eat lots of dairy for calcium, and take it easy.

I have this, or something very near it. It's one of the reasons I don't work out as much as I'd like to. Last year I first felt it when I was on the fly machine, and I had it the entire year, even though I stopped working out completely for almost two months at one point (on advice from the doctor). I'd feel like I had a rib popped out in the front of my chest or something.
Not fun times. I've got a wonky left elbow due to some teenage rambunctiousness and as a result I can't bench more than 165, which is nowhere near my limit. My elbow just pops out and locks at 90 degrees. The first time I found out about it I had no spotter either, so that was a hoot.
