This is very important news!!!

Mega Bloks Inc. did not infringe on Lego's trademark, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled Thursday.

A long time ago I had some no-name, claimed-to-be-compatible-to-Lego blocks. The plastic was inferior, their fit was poor, and they basically sucked.

However, I agree that a company should be allowed to make compatible blocks. You cannot trademark something so simple.

Now if lego came up with something new, it could start the patent process over again.

Is this just a Canada thing or something? Because even when I was a kid, there were competing versions of the Lego blocks out there, such as ones from Tyco. IIRC, some of them were even compatible with Lego blocks and could be hooked into them.

If Lego's losing money, they should just start making cool sets like this or this or this or this or especially this again. I have so many fond memories of playing with those things as a child...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Legos are a ripoff. I don't understand why they are so incredibly expensive.

I had (and still do somewhere in this house) that pirate ship, and also had the foreign legion fortress that was always pitted against the pirates. The cannons for both those sets were the kind that fired before they changed that. I also loved the M-Tron stuff and had both the small and the large robot (the one in your last link). The Space Police stuff was very cool, though I was less a fan of it when they moved away from using lots of black, red, and blue bricks, and changed it to the style in your second last link.

Lego was the by far the greatest toy any kid could have!

Man... I love the pirate ship! I also still have it... or I should say 'its stored away in my parents basement for a long time."

Man... I wish I had the original manuals still.. because all my space forces legos are in little pieces in a box.

Technic Legos were quite cool when I was in high school. A bit expensive, but really really fun.

This is their downfall. Legos used to be relatively cheap. My older siblings collected a huge amount of Legos over the years and I had two giant boxes full which I played with endlessly. Then all of sudden, some moron decided to jack up the price to ludicrous levels. So it became impossible for people to afford to build up huge collections like this.

The beauty of having a big collection is that you can build almost anything. I'd spend hours, sometimes days, building stuff.

Sadly, we gave all the Legos to my brother's kids and they threw them away.

It would probably cost 4 figures to replace all of those today.

The plural of Lego is Lego.

Even kids know that.

Go to humor college cause your jokes suck.
And it's HARD to miss a joke on Canada.

Lego used to be cool... nowadays you build their new models in 2 seconds because there are like 2 huges pieces and it gives you some kind of ugly CYBERmonster and it sucks.

I want retro Lego.

Either silly cybermonsters or sets and characters based on films. What happened to being creative, Lego?

I've joked with my girlfriend that when we have a house later on, I want to setup a Lego room similar to how people setup a room in their basement for toy train sets and such. Having a lot of stuff from the pirate/foreign legion collection, it'd be fun to create a fun scene.

About ten years ago I took a weekly class on Lego Technics at the university I now attend. They used Apples to control them.

Man... looking at those old pictures brings back great memories.

Those were the days......I had two big boxes full of bricks. Every model i only assembled one time, then the bricks went into the great pool and self designed things were built (ships, spacrafts, etc.).
Technik-Lego was great. I had a car with functional steering, motor with moving pistons, suspension and so on....

No, we just don't share the same sense of humor.

The joke was on the Danish actually.

I'll reformulate: your sense of humor sucks.

Seconded.

When I was a kid, there were no computer games and cable TV.

Lego was what I spent most of my time with. Lego and Playmobil.

I had two gigantic tubs of Lego.

I remember for like $20 you could buy a "Big box" of Lego. They were just the basic block pieces in 3 colors, but you got (I think) 1000 bricks.

Now they're super expensive. But funny. If I'm at a store I still manage to swing by the Lego area. At one point I caved in and bought a Stormtrooper Lego. Ugh. $9 for 10 blocks.
