Remember the early DVD Video releases? Nothing that special either.
Sony is testing the technology and consumer response with lesser movies before it moves onto anything truly big.

Twister is regularly credited as the first DVD Video release. It wasn't.
The first DVD Videos were released several months prior to Twister. Nothing to get excited about. Just a bunch of educational videos.
The major movie studios released a whole lot of second tier and older movies on DVD for a good year or so before they started releasing their big stuff.
It's all about testing the technology and consumer response.

non widescreen mono First Blood was my first DVD purchase. yuck  wasn't the first DVD, but one of the first few i imagine.

Twister is third after that but it is first for Warner
