Well, somebody had to start this thread, I guess. The big news as far as I'm concerned, of course, is Carlos Delgado. Although the Mets gave up some good talent to get him, he's one of the underrated hitters in the league and I'm glad we got him this year. Although it does seem like the Marlins are having a fire sale. They do need to fit the entire team on a boat, after all, to go to Puerto Rico and become Los Pescados in a year or two.

Even with Delgado, though, I still think that the Mets need at least one more big bat. I still like Manny, myself, I think he'd do well here. I'd love to add Manny to my sig! And what other explanation do you have for the Mets trading Cameron for a platoon-worthy first baseman other than trade bait! Add Billy Wagner, and one of the capable Free Agent catchers out on the market this year, and I think we have a team that has a legitimate shot at the playoffs!

It seems like the Red Sox got a few players at the Marlins Garage Sale, also. And the White Sox got some Paul Konerko insurance from the Phillies yesterday, also, in the form of Jim Thome.

So, what's next?

Also, here's something funny I found. I want some of whatever Boras is smoking:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/22/sp...l/22damon.html
Scott Boras, [Johnny] Damon's agent, loves to analyze numbers and then unfurl them to help his clients score gigantic numbers for free-agent contracts.
...
Boras made a copy of his binder available to The New York Times. In it are sections titled "Best Leadoff Man in Baseball"; "Most Durable Active Player in the Major Leagues/Deserving of a 7-Plus-Year Contract"; and "Better Than Future Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson." Statistics follow each heading.

The not-so-subtle request for at least a seven-year deal and the not-so-subtle backhanding of Henderson is intriguing enough, but the information in the binder also projects that Damon will record his 3,000th hit by 2012; play more games in center field than anyone in baseball history by 2015; and have the second-highest fielding percentage ever by a center fielder a decade from now, too.
About the only thing that Damon has over Rickey is a better hair stylist.

Here's a bump (I think you all were in a Turkey coma this weekend), and an update that the Blue Jays seem to have signed B.J. Ryan for an insane amount of money. I thought that contract was in Canadian dollars the first time I read about it!

He's good, but not quite that good, I think. And this means that the Mets will have to pony up a guaranteed fourth year to get Wagner, even though his arm may not last that long. Oh well, I think he's worth it....
