Phew... not sure as to why this doesn't work for me...

I broke/bruised/cracked my ribs last night. IBU and capzasin was working, but it's night, and when it wore off, I decided on 2 two year old percoset for the pain.

Why is it that I am feeling high, but the pain is still there?

I feel quite warm and quite high, but pain is there. Are some people immune?

I think pain meds just make it so you don't care about the pain.

Did you go to the ER with the rib thing? They should have given you pain meds.

if not GO. Why MG of percocet was it?

They are stronger than vicodins.. you may be in some bad shape.

Couldn't hi the ER due to my moving sale tomorrow- had no time to waste. Yes, that's pathetic, but from what I read, there's nothing they can do... I will see my doctor Monday. The bottle says 5/325vMG . Am I in trouble? Don't make me paranoid.

I am not sure how bad you are hurt, not trying to make you noid.

You took a low dose percocet. Nothing to be noid about.

That means 5mg of Percocet, and 325mg of acetaminophen.

I call them happy pills. And I like them waaay too much.

I rarely take them because of it.

Both Percocets and Oxycontin have Oxycodone in them. That is the opiate that makes you feel buzzy.

Alright. I have Oxycontin too, but that is ready for the trash (5 yrs. old)....

In case anyone was wondering, all of the pills are leftover from my bad back which I had fusion on 18 mos. ago... no back pain since...

Though it is acting up today since I am over-compensating for the rib injury...

I'd take an Oxycontin in a few hours. If you have no opiate tolerance it might make you sick if you take it on top of the percocet.

I was hit by a drunk driver last month and given the same strength percocet. They make me all warm a fuzzy and I feel less pain but I bet that they base the Mg on your weight because a friend was given the same Mg and took two at a time and said they did nothing for him. He is 6'3 260 # I am 5'9" 165.

Vicodin or hydrocodone is a class 3 drug. Percocet or Oxycodone is a class 2 drug. Therefore probably stronger and more potent than Vicodin

A 5mg Percocet is about as strong as a 7.5mg vicodin.

I don't go anywhere when I take it or else I buy things. Lots of things. BIG things. Like I might come home with a new car kind of things.

I kid you not, once I took some and went and bought a new car. The salesman and his salesman buddy both admired my Palm PDA. Best Buy was across the street. I went over there and bought them each a Palm PDA for Christmas (this was right before Christmas.) And I tipped someone $100 at a valet at Max's Grill in Boca.

I didn't regret it, but those things sure make me feel magnaminous.

Synthetic opiate. Much in the same class as methadone. But not nearly as strong. It can be addictive too. Not as strong as Vicodin or Percocet IMHO.

I like them because I consider them "safe" They can take care of the pain, without really grabbing you like percs do. Darvs are known as girly pills in the pain pill black market. No one really sells them because it's hard to find anyone that wants them. (Junkies can't shoot them)

Percocet and Darvocet are similar in that they are made with a synthetic opiate (oxycodone for Perc, and propoxyphene for Darvocet), combined with acetaminophen. Note that oxycodone is related to codiene, as is propoxyphene. Codiene and its derivatives are basically processed into opiate compounds by your body.

A long time ago I burned myself up pretty badly; second degree burns on my left hand that made the docs wonder whether they were going to have to do skin grafts as I healed. The ER gave me Tylenol 3, which is Tylenol with 30mg of codiene per tablet. It didn't make the pain go away, though it did lessen it, and it didn't even help me sleep. Further, when I did sleep, when I woke up I had a horrible hangover. It turns out that some people are sensitive to codiene and experience problems with it, just like this.

Back to why KeriVit may be feeling "high" but not without pain: Depending on the source of the pain, the codeine effects could be working on your central nervous system, but not on the immediate source of pain because the damaged areas are still experiencing pain-generating movement. This is common with broken ribs-how do you immobilize a rib? You can't, so you sort of put up with it. But this is evidence that the rib or ribs are more than "cracked."

Another thing to keep in mind is that when you are in serious pain, and the medication for that pain is working on the pain, you don't get high. The "high" comes from an overabundance of pain relieving capacity-someone on straight morphine for pain may feel sleepy, but won't get high if the dose is right.

I agree and understand what Glenn is saying... that's why I'm not crazy bout drugs- just a mask. Feels great til 1 am when it wears off. But they really do nothing to help you heal, unlike ibu.

in case anyone cares, the doc will do nothing for you for broken ribs. I tried. The treatment is the same for bruised, cracked, broken. Ibu and rest. Suck it up buttercup- it'll go away in a few weeks.

I will however pick up some muscle relaxers tomorrow form the doc, as I am moving my RV down to GA Wednesday. The spasms can bring you to your knees Some people think I have Touret's Syndrome. No, I will not take them while driving- I'm sharing the driving duties.
