I was just watching something that featured Keisha Knight Pulliam (Rudi for the Cosby show) and thought. "Hey. She turned out alright- never mind quite attractive."

So, I was wondering... who else has pulled through the experience mentally or physically well?

Any thoughts?

You know, I always loved her as a child actress on the Cosby Show (especially the first 2-3 years). She didn't seem like she was acting, but rather being a kid who happened to be on a tv show. There were times in the first season she would be picking her nose while in the background of a scene and wiping it on her clothes. Just her mannerisms and speech were of a kid, not someone trying to play a kid. I think I heard she couldn't even read during her first season.

Now that Ravon Simone who came after her. Ugh. She knew she was a cute kid and was just hamming it up so bad, it made you wanna puke. I think she was the moment the Cosby Show "jumped the shark". Plus her acting was atrocious.

Agreed. Keisha was even nominated for Emmy- so it had to be somethin.

Jason Bateman and Natalie Portman

It seems those child celebrity "where are they now?" shows are in constant rotation on VH1 and E!, doesn't it?

Keisha sure did turn out nice looking - and she is also apparently sane and happy; that doesn't happen too often outside of Hollywood, let alone IN Hollywood!

Drew Barrymore wound up alright, but she had some "rough" times before getting there. And Kurt Russell had some issues too-does anyone remember any of his work between "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" and "The Thing?" Of the three Randman lists, Ron Howard is the only one who worked consistently from his first series to today.

Well Drew was actually nutty when she was young and got it out of her system. Wasn't she an alcoholic at 12?

Yeah, but she would have been that way even if she weren't a child star.

You should see what her parents are like.

In the same vein, I think Liz Taylor turned out fairly well, except for multiple marriages. But then Mickey is no slouch in that regard, is he!

Re: this thread's title.
Why "turned out okay" equals "back in Hollywood"? Why not "finished college", or "doing as much drugs as he wants" or some other metric of success?

No, I did not mean "back in Hollywood" I meant not in jail, on drugs or effed up mentally/physically or otherwise. So many stories of wrecked child actors.

I judge "turned out okay" based on my own childhood of myself becoming a success in my career, I'm going to start my masters degree in 4 weeks, idolizing my father who raised myself and 3 boys on his own while earning 4 degrees and managing to keep everyone fed, happy and loved. But I was not trying to get all serious and ****.

So maybe it was just a fun thread. Hey just cuz some are back in Hollywood is fine, but if you know of others that have succeeded via other means, do share Godfather.

Read it as you will. OK, back to opinionated fun!

How could we all have forgotten Jody Foster? Ivy League graduate, one of the more powerful women in her industry, very nice looking, and working pretty much continuously for most of her life. That's pretty "OK" to me.

Rick(y) Schroder
Justine and Jason Bateman
Mrs. Eddie Van Halen (Valerie Bertinelli <sp?>)

I think those that turn out fine far outnumber those that don't... you just hear about the latter much more.

I think that Ron Howard is the best example.

Brooke Shields turned out mostly all right, especially given that her first major role had her doing nude scenes as a 13-year-old.

Hey, it was work! And I think being cast to lampoon oneself is a pretty big acknowledgement of one's impact on the industry.
