I think it might have been Margaret Thatcher that said that consensus was the lack of leadership, or something similar.
Anyone have a team/committee horror story to share?

"A committee is a life form with six or more legs and no brain."
L. Long
No committee ever "led" anything; anything a committee does is because of its leader-or lack of a leader as in your above notion.
That's not to say there's no use for a committee! A good leader can use a committee to come up with different ideas and new thoughts-ideas and thoughts that the leader did not have by himself or herself. It's also a useful forum for finding out what impact a decision might have; if it doesn't tick off anyone, is there a point in doing it?

As I understand it, there's a saying at West Point: "One bad general will beat three good generals."

...and a man with one watch always knows what time it is, while a man with three watches is never sure. The general thing is because without leadership, you can't make a decision-ANY decision.

As one of my first bosses used to say: "This is a creative department, not a ****ing democracy."
