Not really Apples fault I guess. Still made me very uneasy taking the iMac out to the car (both times). Soooo Obvious what I got there.

I asked a few people on the way out "please don't mug me" It got a laugh.

yes sometimes a brown box with so blue text can be very good.
But the Apple boxes are sexy

Nice counter move by joking about it. I like

Yeah, just make sure you catch the person by surprise who you gank it from.

When I got my iMac, they had me pull the car up to the loading dock behind the store. But I think I was worrying more about lugging all that crap (got a printer and speakers too) to the car without tripping or dropping something than I was about getting mugged...

Anyway, congrats on the new machine..

My PowerBook came in a brown box with a normal shipping label. But that came from the online Apple Store.

Malls usually have their own security force, so I wouldn't worry.

Unless said mall is in the 3rd ward in Houston...I wouldn't worry. You could always ask one of the Specialists to take it out for you.

Tell those employees to take your crap out to the car for you. They are supposed to. They are supposed to bring your computer in as well. Just call and tell them where you are and they'll come pick it up.

I've seen apple store employees pushing a trolley with computer boxes on it for people. most of the time the people are not the type to carry an iMac G5 box.

when i bought my iMac and 'books they always just gave me the box and i carried it myself.

We pack up computers on carts for customers all the time at BestBuy. And we've had several people just walk out with an iMac. You know. It probably wouldn't be too tough to just walk out with one... hmmm... JOKING Actually though some days our security makes me seriously scratch my head.

I heard that another way best buy protects things is by praying to jesus. Apparently their shoplifting has magically gone down 10%! Is that true? Or was the devil tricking me?

You small hateful lil man

Besides Best Buy's God is the all mighty dollar. Anyway BB does have some good ways of keeping "shrink" down. They drill it into employee's heads that stealing is bad, go figure, they also have employees patted down at the door after every shift, any gizmos you take into the store have to be tagged, as well only managers can unlock the cages that hold smaller pricer things, software, iPods, Laptops, cameras, camcorders, etc etc etc.

Since punching in with your coat on is considered stealing, we are not surprised.

I got a lot of jealous looks when I walked to the car from my office with my new 20" iMac. Man that was heavy too, carrying it all that way.

Heh. Back in 2003 I was at an Apple Store and saw a sales guy wheeling out a brand new dual 1.42 GHz G4 Power Mac setup with all the fixin's for a customer. I was SOOOO tempted to tell her that the G5s were coming really, really soon, especially considering it was the very weekend just before WWDC. Then I decided against it. It would p!ss off the sales dudes, and who knew how long the G5s would take to actually ship after the announcement.

When I got my 30" Cinema display, a few people stopped me as I left the store and as I was lugging it to the car. They were nice though, mostly Apple fans that said "congrats" or just made some nice comment. The box is huge, I wasn't worried about anyone mugging me and running away with it

I bought my powerbook, then opened it in the store and used their fast access to pull down an update to 10.2. Also verified everything worked before I left the store. I simply packaged it all up, walked to my car parked 5 feet in front of the store and went home.

This being an Apple reseller, and not some trendy Apple store next to Gap. I bought a Nano at a proper Apple store in Denver and got some odd looks from the employees when I was hooking it up to my Powerbook to put music on it for the ride home.

That reseller has my Apple buisness for life now, after seeing such a reaction at the Apple store. That, and their techs actually know what they are doing.

I walked my 20" Cinema Display home from the store, about 10 minutes. I doubt anyone paid attention to it, as there are a lot of computer stores on College St.
