How many of you have and play a Nintendo DS? I'm trying to decide what kind of gaming I'd like to do this christmas, and its basically Nintendo, or Nintendo.
The DS has a few games that really interest me, particularly Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, Mario Kart, etc, and is a platform with more games to come.

I'm just wondering how many of you actually find yourselves online in Mario Kart or Animal Crossing on a regular basis?

My other choice is a Gamecube, they can be found dirt cheap, with a lot of excellent games at incredible prices.

No: I do not want an xbox360 currently one game and a system for $450 is outrageous, please dont mention it. My brother has a PS2, so I dont need that either.

So if all you are looking at is Nintendo what sort of answers are you looking for here?

You know every Nintendo fan will say those games you mentioned are the second coming that they play everyday.

Mario Kart online sucked. I had so many problems with it.

I have Animal Crossing on reserve for tomorrow (got the call from Gamestop an hour ago). You can bet your ass I'll be online with that.

Basically, wifi on the DS sucks right now. The PSP is way better for online in so many ways. It's too bad Nintendo pigeonholed themselves into games only, and those dual screens still just don't do it for me. That's why I buy much fewer games for the DS.

perhaps the kind of answers that would stem from the questions I asked. To clarify, those would be the sentences that end in "?".

Ignore the Star Wars Guy, he's on salary from Sony. (Just FYI, because I know what response that comment will probably bring, I'm just being sarcastic -- I assume that it's not literally true.)

I have Mario Kart, and have played it online a few times using my wireless router. Everything worked fine for me, but I'm not sure what the difference between my setup and starman's is. It's a great game, and I've really enjoyed it. I play it all the time.

As for other DS games, I don't have Animal Crossing, so no help there. Goldeneye wasn't that great; there are better (I think) FPS options on the PSP. Mario DS (aka Mario 64) was really fun, if you haven't already played it. Kirby Canvas Curse was really cool, though a bit short... worth the money I think.

Gamecube could be a good option, as it will certainly be cheap to buy it and cool games to go with it. Just be aware that it's at the end of its product cycle, so once Revolution is out new Cube games will taper off.

There's nothing wrong with my setup, nor is there anything wrong with other people's setups that had problems. The problems have been Nintendo's, as stated all over the press. They might have gotten the kinks out of the system, but I haven't tried again in the last few days.

so far you have been the only person Ive spoken to with problems.
Not to say that its you in some way, but I dont think very many people have any real issues.
I find it amazingly reassuring that Nintendo has wifi instructions on their website, and a seperate help line telephone number for assistance with it.

I've never had any problems with it.

I hope on every so often for a quick game on Mario Kart. Works fine. Usually pick up 4 people.

The only problem I have is the losing guy always drops after the first race.

I've been playing mario kart DS for a couple of weeks now, and really enjoy it. The online play has worked well for me at 5 or 6 different wi-fi locations with very little set up involved. The game was so fun that since I've bought it, 5 other guys at the office have bought it and a couple of them bought the DS with it and we play ad-hoc wifi matches. The Cube is a great choice also, you can find quite a few top rated games for under $20 used.

I am loving playing Mario Kart DS - reminds me of the old SNES version which was great fun!

Online works well, but most of the time I end up getting my arse kicked

BTW - does anyone know how you unlock new karts?

Just unlocked the "choose from 7 karts for each character" myself. It's pretty cool.

Funny how, its the same 2-3 people who keep dissing Nintendo over and over again.

But anyway....lol.... Mario Kart DS seems awesome. but personally, im not investing into a portable gaming device cuase i dont play on-the-go, and if im home, id like to play on my TV (or beyond w/ NRS )

But as for the holidays....im getting Prince of Persia: Two Thrones(GCN). thats about it as far as games. . i loved Warrior within and from what reviews have been saying, PoP:TT seems heaps better. Next year, it'll most probably be the NRS depending on the price, online availability and the launch library(Mario128 is all im asking for).

Cheers

Have any of you ever started a WFC Match with four players - and finished with all four players? The losing players always seem to disconnect. That's not very sportsmanly. I've even had someone disconnect just before I've passed the finnish line. I assume they're hoping to not register the loss and keep up their win/loss ratio, but my DS registered the win

I've not tried online play yet, as I'm a relative newcomer to all things DS. However, Meteos is my new crack, and so I'd be more than open to giving it a shot if I could get it to work.

Seriously? You're that worried about someone sitting outside your house with a laptop and accessing your network?

I had to downgrade my wifi security from WPA to WEP when I got Mario Kart DS but I'm not losing any sleep over it...

I play Animal Crossing online. I'll get Mario Kart eventually, but I'm having too much fun with AC.

I've been playing MK online - it's fun and works well, but I wish it had online battles in addition to the races.
