http://www.themoscowtimes.com/storie...12/08/001.html

Mike Matthews, a New York-based sound-effects designer whose company Eletro-Harmonix shot to fame in the early 1970s with the Big Muff, has complained to Saratov anti-monopoly officials that Russian Business Estate was moving to cut off the factory's utilities after he rejected an offer to sell out cheap.

I have a feeling there are too many big names not wanting this to happen for it to actually happen.

I hope so, this is the factory that I get most of my tubes from.

Amplifier industry heavyweights such as Fender, Peavey and Korg, among others, would be scrambling to find a supplier that provides the quality and consistency of ExpoPUL's tubes should operations cease
KORG!?

Have they ever even built a piece of valve electronics in their history?

Oh, and I hope Mike keeps the factory.

Yep. Right now.

Korg Triton Extreme has a valve in there.
As does the Korg-built Vox ToneLab series.

And IIRC the latest dance crap thingies (Electribes) have them too.

Ah, forgot about the Triton.

The Electribe has gone tube FX?

Okay, I'm educated, though none the richer for it...

(but "tube heavyweight"?)

It's probably just a marketing gimmick too.

Yep. The MX, so it says on the web site. I don't know the difference between them as I reckon they're all crap so don't take any notice.

Yeah. I know what you mean.

Since the demise of Waldorf and other stories like this one about valves, I'm fast coming to the conclusion that I should just go out and buy enough stock of everything to last the next 30 years.

Don't know about the Triton or dance crap, but it does sweeten the sound up in the guitar processors - i.e. the Vox ToneLab vs the Korg AX1500 (essentially the same product but the Vox has a valve on the output).

the problem is that valves don't last forever, even if unused.

They have a shelf life?

I didn't know that (having always bought them when needed)!

Does anything from Russia work?

I was once told that if they make their missiles like they make their cars they'll probably blow themselves up.

I use NOS tubes all the time. They are usually BETTER than new ones.

AFAIK, they *will* EVENTUALLY (after decades) leak.

At least, this is what my tech tells me.

I don't have a choice, seeing as a some of the vacuum tubes used in the B-3 and A-100 Hammonds haven't been made in like 30 years...

Their space program and their music electronics work quite well.

The Polivoks is a killer analog synth, too.
