Any CompUSA employees who know how much this will make PowerMacs and iMacs for sale? Would it at least be decent or is Amazon a better place to buy (with all the rebates, and such).
While I know the margins are razor thin on Macs, I'm considering the 24 months to pay aspect of the sale which really eases the payment terms.

Most likely there will be fine print that says "Apple products excluded."
Every now and then I get flyers from Beast Buy and Circuit Sh*tty advertising special 10% off all* electronics over $299.
*Apple products, iPods, Cinema Displays, Power Macs, iMacs, etc. excluded.

Apple products are not excluded by this. From the online ad:
Cost Plus 5% offer: Item priced at the register based on CompUSA's cost. If our retail price is already lower than cost plus 5%, you get the lower price. Cost plus 5% offer good on desktops, notebooks, AppleĀ® desktops and notebooks, digital cameras, digital camcorders, home entertainment, printers and PDAs only. Home entertainment products include TVs, video and audio components, home theater systems and home DVD recorders.

I wouldn't get too gidddy.
The only areas where this kind of sale translates to any real savings is in peripherals/accessories. When I worked at CompUSA, the markup over cost on even higher end Power Macs was maybe $100. It was closer to $30 for iBooks and iMacs.
And as I recall, the store markup on video game consoles was only around $3.
However, markup on cables is quite high. With my employee discount I had bought a $22 Belkin FireWire cable for about $4. Quite nice.

That's pretty much what I expected. Again, I was more interested in the 24 months financing at 0%. Considering that I would pay the exact same price at the Apple Store plus sales tax, there aren't as many places that have 24 months. 12 months sometimes.

Well, I didn't go. I can't bring myself to pay sales tax AND give my money to CompUSA. Even with 24 months to pay.
After reading that Intel iBooks may not have firewire ports, I am quite holding off to see what happens in January anyway.

Only "we invent rumors so that people will look at our site" pages have said that. Considering that FireWire is pretty universal on all but the very cheapest PCs these days (and increasingly so, since most contemporary PC chipsets include FW), I don't see why Apple would remove it.

Sounds like a good deal. Just hope that prices aren't raised prior to the sale.
