Our schools computer club is making a CD of games we've written to raise money. Two of the games incorporate images that strongly resemble ships from Star Wars (a tie fighter, x-wing, death star, star destroyer, etc). I believe the images were found by searching google for basic graphics, like this one:

http://www.iconarchive.com/icon/sci-...TieFighter.gif

Do we need to come up with different graphics to avoid being sued?

I think if they are that little and low-rez, and you don't call it a "Tie Fighter," I doubt anyone will care.

Any other spaceship, and I would say do not worry. But were talking about George Lucas here...

Are you under 18? If so, I think the worst you can expect would be a cease and desist letter. I wouldn't worry about it.

If Lucas sued you, it would be horrible publicity for him.

It could get you sued but what are the chances? I would say very little. I'm not a lawyer though.

There have been many games since star wars featuring tie-fighter-like ships.

As long as you are low-profile, no one will notice, but be prepared to have to say "We are not offering that software anymore" just in case.

I think you'll be OK as long as you don't call attention to it by posting about it on an Internet forum.

Very nice, doesn't really look like it should be a problem. Good luck.

Why not just take the safe and creative route and come up with original graphics?

I'm reminded about something a SFX guy I knew once said to me about copyright stuff:

Just make sure George Lucas isn't locked in your closet.

The problem with graphics is that I'm TERRIBLE with them. I have no graphic ability whatsoever. I really need to take a class in it or something.
