I'm glad he's gone. Too bad he couldn't go to the star of Sirius, to be honest. It's not far enough away for him.

I'd be hard pressed not to do some large-fine inducing stunt if I were him.
Hopefully he's not having one of those lame-ass look back shows for his final day.

Yes today is his last day on religious right controlled radio. He is moving to eh eh eh.. (Sirius) on Jan 9th... where you have to pay for free speech but worth every penny!

Today's show was ok, but yesterday's (thursday) was AMAZING. The whole segment with Jackie was incredible. That's the one to torrent if you're a fan.

If the religious right controlled the radio, he wouldn't have been on in the first place.

Since the Janet Jackson incident the right has been after free speech on radio more than ever before.
pay cable TV, Ondemand, Sat. Radio is in their sights. Free speech will be a thing of the past if those right nuts have their way.

Oh crap it has been going on since Two Live Crew.. and it was Tipper Gore going after that crap. Or do you not remember when such things started?
And I didn't know she was part of the "right"
Free speech will be a thing of the past if those right nuts have their way.
What about the left nuts that are doing the same thing? Where is the angst!?
BTW I am not sure you know what "free speech" means in this context.

hey this can go in circles forever this discussion. The fact is the FCC wants to further regulate content on PAY services which the new FCC chairman has admitted he wants to do. This will mean FCC regulation and censorship of cable TV, Sat. Radio, Internet, book stores etc. in order to protect kids (yeah right) from obscene content. The left do have some that agree with this content regulation, but a revolution will occur if they try or pass such legislation.

I am not arguing with that. I am saying it's not a right/Christian thing.
As leftist are in on it too.
BTW, there is nothing wrong with wanting to protect kids (It is what it's about) and no, no revolution will start because of this.
It's not as extreme as you are thinking it is.

While I am not a Howard Stern fan or listener, I DO agree with him about the FCC and its problems.
I do not think that one should be allowed to say anything on the radio. However, the FCC does not define their rules and fines one person one day for something and not the next. It is inconsistent enforcement that has forced Howard out.
I wish him well.

FREE SPEACH® does NOT mean "Anything Goes"
I have as much say as you do about what our government does with our radio frequencies... and I think they do a rather good job. Do I think that they go overboard sometimes? Sure... but if Howard feels like he can't express himself on public radio... he should to to a more private place (AKA Satellite). IMHO, once the "line" has been removed... Howard isn't going to be all that interesting to listen to... Much of his appeal was how far he could go...

Hey meelk,
Mayhaps you would like to express your opinion in a language more closely resembling that which the rest of us refer to as Standard English.
What is this....
"those of you who listen to stern like his crap is worth listening to, much less PAYING to listen to it, are the problems."
...are you even expressing a coherent thought?
Maybe those who use and abuse the English language are the problem?

Because my use of English on a message board determines my worth as a human being right? I have an English degree actually, my carefactor for obeying 'proper' English on a message board is less than zero. Here, let me simplify it for you:
Stern = Crap
If you like Stern, You = Crap
(Since you apparently like Stern, you should be able to appreciate that)
Now, people stand behind Stern for his "right to free speech" and "pushing the limits" and other meaningless crap. Free speech was never intended to be a tool of useless bottom feeders of the kind that Stern appeals to. It was never meant to give someone the right to curse on the air so they could have a drawn out fight with the powers that be for the entertainment of a gutter-trash audience. Ben Franklin was known for his dirty jokes, but that is not ALL he is known for. People like Stern have taken something previously used for the betterment of mankind and distorted it into a twisted and sick perversion of itself.
If he appeals to you, I feel sorry for you.

SUCKER!!! You have been caught up in the ultimate hollywood trap...you believe everything you hear. Just to make it clear...
HOWARD STERN ON THE RADIO IS AN ACT
now he even admits this...he is doing an act... just like Chris Reeves plays the character Superman and Tom Hanks really isn't a soldier in World War II, Howard Stern (on the radio) is for entertainment only. Now some say this isn't free speech, doing a chatacter, but to me this is the definitionof it. How would you like the FCC telling you you cannot exxpress free though on MacNN forums...hmmm?

I've never listened to enough Stern to give a damn. He appeals to feeble people, I dont count myself part of that group, and would be offended to be included in it, so "sucker" it is not. Act or not, it does not change his message, and the stupidity of his audience. The FCC has a valid right in the interest of the public to determine what Stern can and cannot say. You can pass Stern's show while tuning your radio dial and catch what he is saying. Do you really think MACNN is covered by freedom of speech? It is not, forums are considered private, in the same manner as clubs, hence you agree to conditions when you join. The Federal goverment does not regulate such a venue, or guarantee freedom of speech. Perhaps you should understand the issues before you make another post.

His time has come to retire. Please, someone hear my prayer and retire his old ass. He was interesting back in the day—80s to early 90s when he used to be on UPN late night —but now it's just sad. As a kid I was always grateful to him for showing me my first set of boobies. But he's been doing the same shite for nearly twenty years(!) Time to go.

Was a good show, lot of media coverage. I will say that I am Sick of hearing these better-then-you people comparing those of us who listen to crap. F.O.D. no one ever made you listen to a second of his show, some of us enjoy it, so just let it be.
He will need to prove himself though, with a pay service people will need to like what they hear or they will go elsewhere, especially is elsewhere is free.
I will gauge by the number of sirius units sold this christmas and XM halving the prices of some radios just to keep up that he will be a hit on Sirius, at least for a while...
AFA freedom of speech, It is clear that others were getting away with things on television (broadcast) that he was getting fined for, whether any of it was right/wrong according to the rules I don't know but it seemed like they were specifically picking him for whatever reason. I don't think it was a religious thing per say, but they do tend to complain the loudest. So whatever.

Seems to me plenty of people see him as enjoyable, enough so to pay to hear him, heck you felt the need to post in a thread about him, so I would say he is at least relevant.
EDIT: oops... too much Vicodin, my back is killing me from an accident, off to rest now.

True but just like you, you knew just when to cut it. Quick, some one give Howard Stern a sh*t load of Vicodin, STAT.

Guys, the FCC has always been a paper tiger. Even after the Super Bowl incident.
It talks tough, but never seems to get around to doing anything that would change anything. You'll note it went after Clear Channel for Howard Stern: two big names in radio, but neither of which has much financial stake in the other. If the FCC were serious, it would have gone after Infinity Broadcasting.
And actually collecting fines, instead of just charging them.

Can't wait to get him off the airwaves.
While he's going to get a gazillion dollars for moving to sirius, he's losing millions of listeners.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I heard on msnbc, he has a listener base about 16 million (based upon syndication to other stations). Sirius only as a few million subscribers and of course not all are fans. While his signing certainly increased sirius' subscriber base, that number is no where near the 16 million level he reached on the old fashion airwaves.
I'm not sure a lot of people will be willing to pay to listen to him

Well, if we're going to resurrect two year old threads, we may as well talk about Artie coming out to George Takei.
