I've been looking into swapping my apt in Manhattan for a place in Europe (I'm open) for a week or two this spring. It'd save both of us a lot of money and might even be nicer than staying in hotels etc. I've looked on craigslist and have found tons of opportunities...but still..you're dealing with total strangers. At least here we have some sort of background that can be checked out.

I live on 40th and 2nd, right in the middle of Manhattan...36 floors up..nice views, central location. Obviously I can't be stuck with no car in a suberb somewhere so it'd need to be in a place where I could get around. I'd consider renting a car if the area was cool.

I can get you some references if need be. Whadya say...any takers?

Its a 1 bedroom, 2 bath place..doorman...its nice but not crazy nice. Here are some pics from the balcony:

What time are you thinking about?
(BTW, I live in Munich.)

If the exchange rate jumps back up to $1.30=1 euro, you'll wish you went somewhere else.

Even right now it's expensive, and we have a house that's paid for....no habitat expenses except food, gas, heat, etc...

The US dollar is getting the dirty end of the stick these days, do your homework on the cost of the trip...I think you'll be surprised how things have changed.

Meanwhile, the lucky european at your pad will be going home with suitcases filled at the maximum weight with souveniers and goodies. (and still money left over)
Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...

Do you consider Canada part of Europe
Brian says (9:16 AM): I was looking at houses in Ottawa... I actually have a temptation in me to move
Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

My parents do house exchanges a couple times a year. They're part of an international association that helps get homeowners together, and they've been VERY happy with the results.

I don't care about exchange rates etc. etc. I just wanna have a good time...and I like the idea of swapping pads.

I'm definitely open to Munich, Paris or London btw. And Summer might be fine as well, I'll talk it over w/ my girlfriend...I'm just eager to get outta here for a bit.

Any locations are welcome really...even outside of Europe would be cool. A beachy place like Barcelona would be kinda cool too.

Adding some pics of the view from my balconey to the first post.
