I'm selling my used powerbook.
According to Apple's website i still have 184 days to buy applecare.
Can the person I'm selling it to, just buy it and they are covered?
Do they need my receipt to get it? Anything else that is special.
I registered the powerbook in my name. I wasn't sure how apple handled that in terms of something like this.
I know people sell used powerbook with applecare no problem...
I think I heard applecare is tied to a computer and not the person.
Anyway, can the person I sell it to purchase applecare easlily?

The purchaser should have no problem at all. All AppleCare registration requires is the unit's serial number. I would suggest giving the purchaser a bill of sale, however.

Read your Apple Care agreement. You have to send a letter to Apple officially TRANSFERRING AppleCare to the new owner, otherwise they may not be covered. You best give copies of the receipts to them also, just in case.

Well I didn't purchase APPLECARE for myself. I'm still covered right now for 180 days by the 1 year warranty. So there's nothing to transfer at this time.
I just realized the only "receipt" I got was a pack list from apple computer. Does that count. It list the order number and what's in it. It's like a receipt, just not the same one I get from the apple store.
I got an e-mail from apple too that I guess I could give them.
I didn't know if others usually get a more detailed receipt when they buy apple products. This product was reburbished, so maybe my receipt is different.

A guy on eBay wanted me to send him the serial number (I guess to check that I"m not lying about how many days it has left).
Is that a safe idea? Does it matter?

Yes. DO NOT give up your serial number without first selling him the machine!

Why should that request be objectionable, Mister Elf? I asked for the serial number of my (used) iPod before I purchased it on ebay.

I'm not sure how it can be used against me, but it's an odd quesition only since I have 100% feedback on 40 items...
It just felt wrong, but I don't know if he can do anything with it.
