This article should strike fear into the heart of every married man, or even guy w/ a girlfriend, especially the high-maintenance ones. ;-)

"Without those glass slippers, Cinderella would still be sweeping the fireplace, and Prince Charming would be in the middle of a nasty divorce from one of her step-sisters. Deprived of her bejeweled pumps, Dorothy would be stranded in Oz. And the old lady who lived in her shoe? Well, she probably would have been better off investing in real estate than in a broken-down old boot.

The female shoe has always been an object of fascination, endowed with mythical power. And, as women from former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos (who possessed 1,200 pairs of shoes) to Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw (who one episode realized she'd spent $40,000 on footwear, yet couldn't afford an apartment) have shown, some women are willing to spend fortunes to be properly shod.

American women spent nearly $17 billion on fashion footwear between October 2004 and October 2005, according to The NPD Group, a retail and consumer information company based in Port Washington, N.Y. If that sounds like a lot, it should--it's a nearly 10% increase over 2003 spending."

I'm not a shoe freak. I love nice shoes, but they're not high on my list. I'd rather have a computer or something.

Actually, there is no longer a Rule # 8, here or in the Poli/War lounge.

But there is this caveat in the new General Forum Rules.

"Don't post nonsense threads, +1 posts, or anything else with no semantic value."

I would argue a post with a link, an abridged summary of the link, and no comment from the poster as to why they are posting this information qualifies as having no semantic value.

Shoes are a poor substitute for the love of a real man. That's what it boils down to. So guys, keep 'em barefoot and "working on the pregnant".

Hi Cody,

Yes, I prefer my computer also.

Lingerie is still #1 in my book.

I think it's overpriced and it never washes well. Therefore, it should only be worn once then tossed.

That much said, French lingerie is the best and it's also the most expensive.

I'd still rather have a new PowerBook or visit the Apple store. I'm sick that way I guess.

Getting her pregnant will cost you far more than letting her buy shoes!

Not if you run off.

Anyways... I said "working on", not "getting".

the most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought were ski boots. After that, it was the day I bought two pair of Fluevogs.

rest of my shoes are payless or similar junk.

I like women that have lots of shoes. I, however, insist that they only wear one pair in bed, but one pair.

Good shoes are important for your joints and your spine. I could give a crap how they look, but having developed arthritis in my knees, I have learned that shoes matter.

I am barefoot most of the time.

Except when I rollerblade.

When I go out I wear Nike rubber open toe flip-flop type sandals and khaki shorts and a white button-up (men's small) shirt. I have no need for fancy footwear.

Though, I do have a pair of stainless steel 4-inch spikes for wearing with my black leather mini skirt. (Yes, they were expensive, but they look very sexay.)

Spiked shoes frighten me... I thank God sometimes that my girlfriend is also a flip-flop nut. They're hella cheap, and I'm not the type to care what she's wearing.

Why are so many girls grossed out by feet, either their own or other people's? I never understood that one.

i have a few styles in different colors, and amazingly enough all of my shoes get worn.
