An administrator at California State University, Sacramento has banned decorations pertaining to Christmas and the 4th of July, among other holidays, from her office because they represent "religious discrimination" and "ethnic insensitivity."

"Time has come to recognize that religious discrimination, as well as ethnic insensitivity to certain holidays, is forbidden," Patricia Sonntag, director of the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities, stated in the directive she e-mailed to members of her staff on Dec. 9.

...The memo specifically names Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine's Day, the 4th of July, St. Patrick's Day and Easter as the most offensive holidays, but Sonntag adds that they are "off the top of the list," implying that there may be others.

She wrote that the ban was being implemented "in order to avoid offending someone else" because Sacramento State is "a secular university and we are a public service area that has a diverse employee and student populations [sic] even in our private offices."

Why not just rid of all holidays completely. Why not Add Presidents day, Veterans day, Martin Luther King Day. The list goes on and on of holidays we could add because it could "offeeend" Somone or group. This Political Correctness stuff is getting out of hand. Why not ban Birthdays too since it might "offeeeend" someone's religion?

Sorry, but the memo must have been a sarcastic piece. The inclusion of Thanksgiving and the 4th of July are the giveaways. It's not even possible to be offended by the celebration of national holidays in the country you chose to go to school in.

Heh. Careful with that knee of yours.

1. You don't know if she is at all left leaning in her political affiliations and opinions.

There is a difference between accepting different cultures and attempting to wipe out any traces of them.

It's part of leftism. Leftism is a progressive disease, the symptoms of which one doesn't normally recognise until it's time to reach for the muskets.

Clue: Leftists always despise the traditions and current attributes of the country they're in. This is essentially because the leftist, being a complete and utter loser, has found it difficult to make headway in their personal life in the current system. Conservatives are winners in the current system (whatever it may be) and thus don't want to change it. Progressives (leftists) are losers in the current system, so need the change.

School administrators in many, many school districts and colleges have zero tolerence for anything. This is just the TYPE of person that wants that type of job. They are only happy when showing this intolerence around to their intolerent, narrowminded friends. This administrator is incapable of explaining to other intolerent, self centered students why these celebrations exist.

And to think that peoples hard earned money pays for a$$ Canyons like this who add nothing to the school experience, but make the institution a laughing stock.

Perhaps a similar intolerent attitude from the parents will get that fool fired 'for the holidays'???

Then why does Hollywood, comprising some of the most successful people in America, have such a strong tendency toward the left? You could hardly argue that the current system is screwing George Clooney.

Meanwhile, many of the poor and middle-class in America are leaning toward the right, as evidenced by the last election's results.

Doesn't the story also say she banned the decorations "from her office?" It's worded to say she doesn't want a bunch of decorations in HER OFFICE. If that's not what's meant it's a different thing. Otherwise, she can be Scrooge McGrinch (oops! Too English! how about "Jerk the Jerk?") in her office all she wants.

That's not a strong tendency towards the left - it'd a slight tendency towards the centre (from a right-leaning position).

NEWS FLASH

An administrator at California State University, Sacramento has banned Saturday and Sunday from the academic year. The week schedule will go directly from Friday to Monday. Wednesday and Friday are also being considered for elimination due to the association with "Ash Wednesday" and "Good Friday"

In other news, the word "California" may be removed from the University's name as it is discriminating against the other 49 states.

I've spent most of my career in an academic setting and have never met anyone like this besides one low-level supervisor who, for no reason, told her one employee that he couldn't have plants or put posters of anything up in his office.

In fact, my experience has been that academic settings are far more tolerant of office decorations of any kind than any but the most .com corporate setting. In fact, the only time we've had official decoration policies was when library staff members who dealt with students were advised, but not ordered, not to have obvious political buttons or decorations, a policy directly targeting anti-war folks.

But really, who cares about the little office politics of some random probably 10-person department in some random organization in a country with a population of 300,000,000?

I guess it's offensive if you are British. Except they seem to be on pretty good terms with the US nowadays.

okay..

Two things determine monetary value--scarcity and utility. The only reason that actors and singers and other entertainers are so rich is because the service they provide is so scarce. (It has some utility, but not as much as some lower paying jobs....ie a doctor or garbageman even.)

The success of hollywood actors is NOT caused by their being crazy lefties. It has to do with the fact that they have a talent. Rare talent. Whoop-dee do. All you've proven is that people with entertaining talents are often lefties. Big deal.

As much as I love that state (and I really do) I must say that there is something odd in the water out there that turns everyone's brain to utter socialistic mush.

I don't think you understand what I said.

Doofy said that leftists are so because they are unable to achieve success in the system as it exists and thus want the system to change for them. I said that these notable leftists (they usually are identified as the left) clearly have made it in the system we are in, so that motivation doesn't apply to them.

I hope this person isn't using anything influenced by a religious organization of any kind. If she thinks everything inspired by any religion could be considered offensive, then she had better not be using it.

Various religions have inspired, or have been directly related, to contributions of many things we take for granted every day.

Even when I was a staunch atheist I welcomed and appreciated the contributions of various religions to the world society.

This person is clearly an anti-Christian.

I'm saying that there seem to be more exceptions to his statement than examples proving it. Leftists tend to be ivory tower types, and nowadays the lower classes often lean right (maybe because they see the other side as an ivory tower philosophy).

Hollywood aren't proper leftists though. They're businesspeople.
If I thought wearing a Che T and standing outside Tookie's prison would get me an extra ten million sales, I'd do it. Same deal with Hollywood.

It really has nothing to do with "offending" anyone. That's a smokescreen. Their attempt is to make this one a secular society.

To be on the left, you either have to have money or not have it. Social programs take money from people that have it and give it to people that don't. If you're in the middle (you have enough money, but not an excess), you're likely going to oppose this idea. If you don't have much, you'll welcome what you can get. If you have too much, you're likely giving some of it away already, so you see it as something that you should do. As has been shown for other examples, there are exceptions. However, selling a spread the wealth philosophy to people that are working hard to be in the middle class is going to be tough. They feel like they've busted their ass to get where they are, and you want to set them back a bit instead of just telling the poor to bust their ass. They prefer the right who is telling them they can keep their money.

What causes Liberal fascist women to be such nazis? It is fairly apparent that she has a malfunctioning vagina and she hasn't been sufficiently satisfied for decades. Miserable people always try to export their gloom onto others.

I just knew that this woman was ugly, and this picture proves my theory.

They should put more thought into the actual education of students. Christmas is a Federal Holiday.
