Ok there are lots of bad Apple related stories about but this one strikes me as particularly retarded.
He talks how the iPod is selling double of last year and how everyone uses iTunes but Apple should buy Palm because "Microsoft gets it".
He also mentions how Palm hates MS and it would be a good fight. I guess he forgot how Palm just killed its own OS to use Microsofts.
I cannot understand how Apple would gain ANYTHING from buying Palm. Apple made a better PDA in 1993 than Palm does today.

Well, I dunno. Someone's gotta RE-INVENT the PDA. Everything on the market right now is bad at best.

Does Palm have stock? What is it (number/code). I'm going to buy a crapload of it.
I bought Apple at 16 1/2 a long time ago...best thing I've ever done. 1000 shares worth and now I'm very happy.
I'll buy Palm for the same reason. When things are looking grim on something, buy it. I've made money that way and I'll continue to do it.
Just stay out of restaurant stocks, that's all.

Frankly, I think that Apple should buy a stake in AOL, and set AOL as the default web browser.
Also Apple should use AOL's program to replace Finder, in the same way that IE replaced the file browser in Windows.
The fact of the matter is that Apple would stand to benefit by integrating the award winning AOL Optimized 9.0 into Mac OS X.

Palm's stock is traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker PALM. It's around $30/share. I think it's a good buy, not because things are 'looking grim', but when they release the Treo running Microsoft's OS, it's going to sell like hotcakes.

It would be cool to have an Apple PDA. I wish somebody did something with Psion, I want my PDA to have a keyboard.

Why would they do that? Isn't AOL's browser just a tweaked version of Firefox? And why should Apple copy something Microsoft did with their OS? If I liked the way M$ did stuff I would be using Windows right now. You need to explain exactly how Apple would stand to benefit by integrating AOL into Mac OS X. You provided no evidence, logical reasoning or otherwise, on how your statement might be true.

IMHO, Apple would simply offer an iPod upgrade that had handwriting recognition and better integration with your Mac/PC.

Because think about how much better it would be to double-click on a folder and have AOL launch. Then you could see your files displayed in a browser window, which would make things like FTP hosting and file-sharing easier.
Also making AOL a part of the OS means that your computer would be free of viruses and spam.
And a really nice perk would be the ability to Make $$$ Refer a Friend. Mac OS would be able to show you little reminders of this referal program in all sorts of places, like the Dock and the Apple Menu.

Palm is so 1990s. PDA are going away as the average user ditches them for an iPod or a nice cell phone.

I've heard lots of good things about the Newton, so Apple must have been doing something right.
Based on my own experience with the Newton, it seems like it is just a post-it note combined with a wrist-watch that weighs as much as a cinder block.
Perhaps I am biased against the Newton though, since I hate all PDAs.

He misses that Palm has been dropping Mac support.
He misses Palm is moving to Windows Mobile.
He misses that Steve hates PDA's.
He misses that Apple is most likely working on their own phone and in no need of Palm.
This guy is dead wrong.

Or perhaps not. It is sad to see how little people have learned from MS screw-up with the browser/filebrowser integration and to see how they hold the Mac Finder in low esteem.
Perhaps the Finder will be replaced, but not by a web-browser. Security reasons.

I'm going to be the first to tell you then: FTP and file sharing do not depend on how you interact with your files, i.e. how you view them. I am going to make a logical assumption now: You don't really know what you are talking about..?

Mac OS X doesn't have a single virus. Spam is email related, so again I assume you don't know what you are saying. Perhaps you know what you want to say, but that isn't the same thing.

Spam. Why do you talk in circles? AOL for no spam and yet at the same time for spam. Perhaps this idea of yours is not good and will never happen.
cheers

Yeah, whenever I run into the guys giving out free Heralds at Kenmore Sq. I just keep walking.
(However, I will grant that I would prefer to see good papers in a tabloid format, rather than the more common broadsheets. Broadsheets are just too large to be convenient.)

It was before anyone cared about PDAs, it was pretty expensive, and the handwriting recognition was kmloa skeichy (that's my imitation of writing "kinda sketchy" on a Newton). It was a relatively good PDA, though, as I recall, aside from taking a long time to figure out what you were writing.
By the way, His Steveness declared a while ago that he doesn't think PDAs are Where It's At anymore and the functionality would just be built into other devices, such as mobile phones. Hence, no iNewton.

Ya, I didn't get it until he responded to my response. I was literally laughing out loud at the bit about reminders popping up in the dock and apple menu. Good stuff.

Well, it was made in the early to mid 90's. If the Newton was made today, it would be the size of a Treo... that's a hint for Apple to buy Palm, imho.

I would be happy if Apple came out with a real phone, and not the little piece of crud that was released a while back. So lame Apple.

I agree, but the cell phone companies don't want to cut Apple into their profits. Look at SprintPCS. They are trying to charge $2.50 for each song... $2.50!!!!
Ummm... pardon me while I die laughing.
IMHO, Apple can't break into the mobile phone business... and the cell companies aren't good at A) Picking good hardware and B) Freeing up their hardware to where the devices become very useful.
