Oh, let me say that I wrote this topic with the best intentions since we all know how much Cody loves dogs, therefore I found that info at PETA site and though it was worth a topic… people that care about pets and then care enough to use a Macintosh?, I find it great.

Do the people at PETA really care about animals or are they simply crazy?

FYI if PETA had it's way, there would be NO DOMESTICATED ANIMALS.

Hi angelmb:
Everyone can relax...the thread isn't about me - it's about PETA - it just mentions me in passing.
I have to tell you, I know that PETA attempts to be noble and there happens to be incidences when I agree about the boycott of certain companies and people, such as J.Crew (or JCruel.com) but PETA has some of the worst people out there working for them.
Read this article and you'll see what I mean.
DON'T BE FOOLED by the slick propaganda of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The organization may claim to champion the welfare of animals, as the many photos of cute puppies and kittens on its Web site suggest. But last week, two PETA employees were charged with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty each, after authorities found them dumping the dead bodies of 18 animals they had just picked up from a North Carolina animal shelter into a Dumpster. According to the Associated Press, 13 more dead animals were found in a van registered to PETA.
The arrest followed a rash of unwelcome discoveries of dead animals dumped in the area. According to veterinarian Patrick Proctor, the PETA people told North Carolina shelters they would try to find the dogs and cats homes. He handed over two adoptable kittens and their mother, only to learn later that they had died, without a chance to find a home, in the PETA van. "This is ethical?" Proctor railed over the phone. "I don't really think so."
This is not the first report that PETA killed animals it claimed to protect. In 1991, PETA killed 18 rabbits and 14 roosters it had previously "rescued" from a research facility. "We just don't have the money" to care for them, then PETA-Chairman Alex Pacheco told the Washington Times. The PETA animal shelter had run out of room.
The Center for Consumer Freedom, which represents the food industry, a frequent target of PETA campaigns, released data filed by PETA with the state of Virginia that shows PETA has killed more than 10,000 animals from 1998 to 2003. "In 2003, PETA euthanized over 85 percent of the animals it took in," said a press release from the lobby, "finding adoptive homes for just 14 percent. By comparison, the Norfolk (Va.) SPCA found adoptive homes for 73 percent of its animals and Virginia Beach SPCA adopted out 66 percent."
It's an organization that is filled with a lot of zealots, unfortunately.
I love working with rescue, but when I was involved with it I met a lot of REALLY strange people. Some of their homes were unbelievably filthy - including one mansion that was filled with dog crap everywhere because she had Yorkies and couldn't teach them any housebreaking rules and she subsequently put her dogs IN the washing machine (no it wasn't on) to punish them - yet she claimed to donate thousands of dollars to PETA and local rescue. This is the same woman who later in the year was thrilled to show me her new silver fox coat - and she tried to give me her "old" one (two years old).
I dunno. I know that they mean well, but I'm not sure they do.
I've been working with Lori Pretz from eBay executive offices about the format for eBay to run pet ads and we've been trying to figure out a way to do it to keep it safe and humane for animals, but I'm not sure we're going to pull it off. I don't want commercial sales of animals on eBay, only adoptions with an adoption fee, but the truth is that people will find a way around it and ultimately animals will be bought and sold with eBay as a marketplace for animals so I'm not sure that it is going to work. I think it will be a huge headache. We have been trying to figure out a way to make it work, but it's becoming so tiresome with trying to figure out how to exactly keep it humane that it will probably be scrapped and eBay will continue to not allow animals.
However, my point is that PETA is a huge factor. PETA is against ANY animals being put on eBay, adoption fee or not, and who needs PETA to contend with? They are zealots who are capable of assaulting people with blood, bombing offices, etc.
In short, PETA people are sometimes just plain nuts.
I wouldn't want to work for or with them.

I think PETA is a great company, they place the welfare of animals before everything, including politics. And they do a bloody good job of it, too.

We went to see Narnia when it came out a couple weeks ago, and when it got to the scene where the kids go through the wardrobe (passing through all the coats), this woman behind us started making grumbling and strangling sounds. Then, in the film the kids stopped to take a few of the fur coats to wear, she started growling and swearing and grabbed her son by the arm and drug him out of the theater.
After the movie I talked to the theater manager, an old friend of mine, and he said that the lady cussed him out and almost assaulted him because of the use of fur coats in the film. She then flung a business card at him and told him that "they" would be in touch... yeah, the business card said PETA.
Bunch of damned freaks and idiots.

Damn, that's funny. PETA are practically terrorists. They have financial affiliations with convicted bombers. They really truly believe that their ends are worthy of any means. Do not give them money and do not give them support.
From the Wikipedia article:
PETA has critics who frequently point out that PETA has financially contributed to groups such as the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). [24] Critics also point to a statement from Alex Pacheco, one of PETA's founders, that "arson, property destruction, burglary, and theft are acceptable crimes when used for the animal cause" [25] as a reason for PETA to lose its special status as a non-profit organization. [26] Part of the cause for concern is the degree of financial support given by PETA to these eco-terrorist organizations, [27][28] both associated with firebombings and other destruction of property, and described by the United States Department of Homeland Security as terrorist threats. [29] PETA has also been accused of operating animal shelters that kill more animals than most publicly operated shelters in the United States. [30]
Take it with a grain of salt if you like. The accusations are quite common and come from a variety of people and organizations. If you ask me, it comes up way too often to be pure fabrication. Besides, listen to that lady talk - she's completely nuts.

WDLove is the greater, bigger, better dog lover.
I love my dog but she just peed on my couch.
She's in the dog house - literally - right now thinking about her dog transgression.
I am now washing cushion covers.
But she's still a great bitch.

why does ebay need to do animal adoptions, when there is www.petfinder.org? Local shelters can place ads for pets for free, paid for by ads from pet food companies... I just adopted two kitties from an ad on petfinder.

Actually, you're on the right track, andi*pandi.
Lori is also working with Betsy Saul who is the president of Petfinder.org and with Betsy's help it will fly or it won't.
I don't think it will, though it might have been a good idea for some animals.

If that is not sarcasm, I'd say read the f*cking report right up there, killing animals is not putting the welfare of animals above everything.

Cody is awesome.
I'm sorry to hear about the transgression. Puppies do have accidents. Even are adult dogs do occasionally.
Over Love for them remains.

I think beyond that. We'd be clearing developed communities to give land to animals. I tend to think that PETA is completely unaware of what would happen to society (let alone their organization) if they accomplished all of their goals.
As for the Lady at Narnia...
I'm surprised at that. I wonder if she was really there just to check out the movie and look for 'violations'.
