He has a couple of injuries in his legs that I don't have too many details on. But, in order to prevent the severity of those injuries from growing, he needs to keep his legs warm and thus keep the blood moving in his legs. So, he wears the "stockings". The color is his choice, though. I reckon he could have chosen yellow ones, but then he'd look like wolverine out there, heh.

They may very well be a support stocking like a Sigvarius. Helps with blood flow.

The only player Kobe Bryant makes better is ... Kobe Bryant. He may be an excellent individual player, but he has little sense of team. He will not win another championship until he has someone of Shaquille O'Neal's caliber there with him. If I were a NBA general manager or VP of player personnel, I would consider paasers like Jason Kidd or Steve Nash before I'd think of signing a ball-hog like Kobe for my squad. Even Allen Iverson has finally figured out that no one player can take 50 shots in a game and expect to win consistently.

Yes, that's why I said he sucks. He may be a good indvidual player but not good as M. Jordan or even worse- LeBron James.

You make it sound like Kobe is the only one who needs a Shaq to win. Even Jordan needed Pippen to win. And, before you say Pippen was not that great, remember that he is actually one of the 50 best NBA players of all time.

That's a pretty good point. But I would argue that Lamar Odom is nearly as rawly talented as Scottie Pippen was in his prime (although Pippen was more coachable); Lamar's problem is that he is miscast and misused. Kwame Brown has many gifts but he just doesn't have the maturity to take the next step.

The stocking retain the heat in his legs allowing for flexibility and (hopefully) further injury prevention.

Maybe that's why Kobe should not skipped college? Maybe he could've played better and coachable with phil jackson if he experienced some team work in college basketball games. It doesn't mean it applies to LeBron. He doesn't need a college level. He's already playing like he's been in NBA for 10 years.

Maybe it's to support venous blood transport? Here is Mockenhaupt running with compression stockings for that reason:

Kobe would have been a giant among men in college. The same goes for LeBron.

I do believe that if Phil Jackson had been Kobe's first coach, he would be a better player today. Kobe's first NBA coach (Del Harris and Kurt Rambis for that matter) didn't do a good job of bringing him up.

Having said that, do not forget that Kobe is only 27, has already three (3) championships and been in the league nine (9) years. (Before you even mention that those championships were won along side Shaq, do not forget that Shaq had not won any championships prior to playing for Phil and along side Kobe.)

Tomorrow, he'll wear his first Nike "signature" shoe playing against Miami. Not sure what it looks like, but if looks anything like the above, it'll sink faster than the Lakers after Shaq left.
