Is this Jesus thing a joke, a hack or what?
Thanks,
Mark
realGod@macupdate.com
Mark--
it wasn't a joke! can you believe that?
Thanks for using MacUpdate. Sorry for the delay in writing you back. Thank you for writing.
I do not represent MacUpdate, but i know that they care about serving you. They do care about their users. There will be some changes to the website soon that will benefit you as a MacUpdate user, one who cares enough about the site to write in. They are here for the Mac community. I hope you'll continue to be a part of it.
The page was not done out of disrespect to you, or others that go to the site. I'm sorry that you felt it was inappropriate. this was not our intention. the page was done for Christmas. our intention was to share with you words to let you know that Jesus is real, and he cares about your life. Maybe you've heard otherwise- maybe you dont like christians- maybe you are firm in your beliefs. But he cares about you, and His character no one can fathom.
if you are interested in Jesus (not religion or christianity or right-wing beliefs), then seek Him.
thank you for writing. feel free to write back.
out to love,
allie

So I still don't get it. If they don't represent MU then how did they get this crap up there?

if you are interested in Jesus (not religion or christianity or right-wing beliefs), then seek Him.
So that's the spin de jour? In order to shake off the "justified" right wing fundie stigma, "Jesus" is given a special status outside of "religion". LOL
Anywho, my take on it is this (since I was involved in that discussion), some girl named "Allie" who works for MU is quite obviously a devout Christian, convinced the owner (a guy named Joel, who also seems to be a fundie) to put up that entry page and the afore mentioned email address to show his/their "support" for the Birthday Boy.
They obviously were aware that they would get a lot of flack, so "they" chose to send a standardized reply to all who critizised the site.
Not the smartest move on MU's part...but eyh, they provide a pretty decent service. Meh.

Hey tards, Tooki locked the original one for a reason in here. There is one going on in the PL.
And I quote
Anyhow, I think it's time to close this, since this thread has squarely moved into the topic of the nature of religion, clearly a topic for the PL. If any of you wish to continue this discussion, start a thread there.
I suggest you start paying attention SWF.
And kron you talk about Christians as if they were Nazis.
gimmeabreak.

I got the same reply, like the two other people I know who sent a polite but critical mail. Kevin got a personalized answer, I have no idea if they sent these to everybody who supported them or not.
I thought the form letter was full of nonsense, and not just because the spelling is dicey. I have a problem with anybody who claims to have a monopoly on spiritual truth - regardless of their personal religion. Religion is build on faith rather than empirical observation and we have no way to prove who is 'right' and who is 'wrong'.
My personal take is that all religions are trying to do the same thing: Explain the mystery of existence, channel spiritual expression and give their followers a set of rules to live a life that contributes to society in a positive manner.
The above seems to be universal to all religions I have ever studied. The specific execution, and by this I mean whether you believe in Jesus, Mohammed or a multitude of gods is arbitrary as far as I am an concerned.
What Allie does in this letter, and remember, these are only my personal observation, so YMMV, is taking her own spirituality and assuming that the manifestation she has chosen to express it must the be the only correct option. This, again in my opinion, is patent nonsense. If you buy the same model car it doesn't matter whether it is grey, green or blue, it will still get you to where you want.

Well since she layed out her intentions well, I don't think there is any need to second guess what they were.
Is there?

A lot of non-denomenational Christians are doing that - breaking away from the "religious" traditions of past churches that seem made up for no reason at all and making Jesus the center again.
Wow, I guess that means I'm promoting the lockination of this thread...

There is nothing wrong in christianing a Mac, or software.
If Awareness can come to the internet, I think it is time we look for its salvation just as well!
