Another thread made me ponder this: What would the Earth be like if all ailments were cured and the only way people died was from accidents or murder?

This is a concept that boggles my mind.

The amount that the world would be different would be staggering.

Just off the top of my head:
Population control would be THE issue.
There would be a lot of bored people.
Entertainment would be the prime currency.

What do you think the world would be like?

For some reason this also makes me reminded of "Highlander".

We can't get along now so I predict we'd have a hell of lot more wars.

I think we'd play videogames to experience pristine untouched places in nature, that were paved over hundreds of years ago for more suburbs.

And after everyone in Africa starved to death we'd have more room.

Ok, here is a more intelligent response:

The rich will postpone reproduction and hence be overrun by the poor.

Oh, and if that happened, life would lose all meaning. Everyone would experience all there is to experience in life until they're bored out of their minds. People would be killing themselves just to break the torturous monotony. Those that don't would be driven mad. We'd have nothing but a bunch of crazies running around causing havoc. Law would dissolve. Currency would be useless. I'm thinking something like Mad Max, but with way more people.

People would have a lot more sex. No more worries about STDs or AIDs.

Though the birth rate would probably go up.

If all ailments were cured?

No more sick days off of work.

If there's enough women and booze on board to last the whole trip I suppose I'd be down.

I strongly disagree!! Rolling Bones hit the nail on head. Given the ridiculous hypothetical situation that people would live forever unless killed (even if every ailiment was cured, tissue grows old- at a certain age we stop producing new bone cells and brain cells get harder to recreate, this isn't an ailiment its just age), there are environmental limits to population growth. Space would quickly become limited if most people didn't die, as new babies are still being born. Food and living space would become scarce, everything would become unsanitary (although I am assuming the new diseases that formed would not be able to harm us). Resources, such as forrests, would quickly be stripped while waste production would increase 10 fold. The poor would be the first to die, as they would have the most cramped, crappiest living arrangements and the least access to food. Even if every person turned into a vampire, vampires still need food or they die, and they still need a coffin to protect them from the sun. No creature lives forever.

It will happen, we are promised a new Heaven and a new Earth. We have to live our lives to realize that promise.
