I live in the crooked, nonsense streets of Boston and suburbs. I'm tired of getting lost just trying to go to the store! Does anyone have a good navigational GPS system they know of? Ideally something that works with OS X (if it needed updating and that stuff).
I await your battles.

I'd recommend one of the c series units from Garmin... portable, touchscreen, voice prompted navigation, and affordable. http://www.garmin.com

Id like some GPS software and hardware that will work with a Powerbook and OSX 10.4.3. Were about to move on a sailboat and i want to use my PB as my GPS/Plotter.

They have listings for compatible marine maps. Not sure about it being a full navigation system, but there ain't much out there for Mac.

I have a Garmin 12 and a compact flash GPS receiver for my PDA. Both are good for telling you where you are, but whatever you use to navigate, you need to know what's around you. In other words, you need MAPS!!! Paper and electronic maps are the best way to avoid getting lost at home. Really. Study hard!

I just got a Garmin eTrex Legend C and bought a low-end Dell laptop to use the MapSource software.
It's great.
And that combo gives you more power and functionality that an $800 TomTom.

I'll be using Galileo exclusively. It's much better than GPS.

Get a real GPS with TMC. TMC notifies you of traffic jams and other problems and guides you around them. Sadly almost none of the cheaper ones don't have TMC.
Oh and get to know your own city. It can't be THAT hard

Mapsource doesn't have navigation. Get Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 if voice prompted navigation interests you (as it does most people using a GPS in a vehicle).

Not without voice prompting. MapSource is adequate but certainly not comparable to TomTom.

Uhhh....all my Garmin units, with MapSource, have navigation. Routes are programmed, and the Garmin alerts either via voice or beep.

Uhh... sorry I missed the "C". The B&W Legend doesn't have such capability and neither does my eTrex Vista.

The problem is that Boston keeps changing the streets. So the new technology doesn't keep pace. Just like.

Why not just buy a map? They're way cheaper than a GPS.

I'd love to buy a map, but it's rather tough to find yourself on the map when the street you were on has suddenly changed names 5 times, twisted, turned and become rather insane.
I think I found the GPS I want. New year's resolution: don't get lost again. heh!
