Whoa. I've never even seen the Google OS, much less a Google PC. If this is true, I wonder what it's gonna look like, if it'll be able to run Windows binaries, etc.

Here are some predictions for the media industry for 2006, based on interviews with industry analysts, executives and investors, along with a little intuition.
Just a prediction.

Yes, but will it run on a Mac?

Cringley's been spending a lot of time prognosticating about Google in the last month or two. This article specifically mentions the Google Cubes thing, and there are others if you search his archive. Now, it could be that this LA times article is just repackaging Cringley's fluff as news, but I've read the WalMart connection from other sources as well, so I think there is something to that.
I would be suprised if Google released an actual competitor to the PC. Rather, I think it would be more like a media center, only one that doesn't suck. Google is very good making basic technologies that work with very little fluff. A media center that didn't feel liek a computer (kind of like Tivo was four or five years ago, before they fell behind technologically) would rock.

I would be surprised to see google compete against the well established rivals of Windows, OS X, and Linux. Google makes is money from advertising, so assuming they follow that model, a google pc would be full of ads. I don't see consumers warming up to that idea. I will believe a google pc when I see a google pc.
