I know everyone is having this love affair over Google. They are a cool company but when i comes to having recent and updated content appear when you search for something they sorta suck.

I have been using google exclusively for 4 years. For the past couple years though I have seen how outdated some of their search results are. For example when doing an image search a large number of the results end up being page not found.

More importantly when I launch a new website or update the content I thought it was the norm for Google to take 3-6 months to reflect the changes.

I launched a new website 3 months ago and Google has no clue it even exists even though I submitted it to google. At the same rate it took yahoo less than a month to find and crawl the page on its own.

Same goes for my website. I recently replaced everything on it, it took yahoo less than a week to figure that out. When doing a search for my company in Google it shows some summery which doesn't even appear on the page and is about 4 years outdated. Same case for websites which have been totally offline for 6 months.

I like the other google services like the maps and google ads but their search engine leaves much to be desired when it comes to recent information.

Maybe you did something wrong because my site came up only a day or two after I launched it /shrug.

EDIT:

Do a search on "starman warcraft". My site comes up on Google link #2, but on Yahoo link #8. In fact, Yahoo lists my Everquest 2 posts before my own site for World of Warcraft!

How can I do something wrong?

Do a search on Google for "david ivkovic". It should show davidivkovic.com but it doesn't know it even exists even though it has been up since early nov.

Yahoo finds it no prob.

Well, at least Google will allow me to submit my site. Yahoo! just tells me that the submission failed because it timed out when trying to connect (the site loads just fine, and the time it took Yahoo! to tell me that it had timed out, from the time I clicked the submit button, was less than one second, so it can’t have tried very hard).

When I search for the name of the site in Google, it gives me the site as number one, and the place where a preliminary version of the site used to be as number two. In Yahoo!, the site comes at number ten, after a lot of random posts on forums and the likes.

I was wondering the same thing.

I don't get the love affair with GOOG either. It's a good company but there is certainly no real justification for the fact that it is now worth more than IBM.

It looks like it's starting to venture into pre-bust AOL territory in terms of stock value...

I would not be opposed to switching to Yahoo as a main search engine if its results were consistently better than Google's, but Yahoo always seems to let me down. It seems to me that Yahoo has always lagged behind the competition, long before even Google became prevalent. Google News is far superior to Yahoo News, although I prefer Yahoo mail to Gmail. Google isn't the best tool for every job - I have found Google Video to be far behind You Tube - but as a text engine I believe it to be the best around.

@SWG, your new design looks good, but i really liked the previous one. the angled one in the corner, very original.

Google works by seeing who links to your page, and how important the pages are that link to you. Yahoo is much simpler, which may be better in some situations and worse in others.

You get the second most retarded person award in this thread. I am supposed to post warnings before I post a link to a site that has an actors headshots because you have a phobia?

I always give any sites I do a nudge by submitting them to Google manually. The Google Dance cycle used to be around 28 days (could be old info) and things usually got indexed faster than that, even with only modest links to the site.

http://www.google.com/addurl/

Maybe its placebo, but has worked for me.

(davidivkovic.com is second in results now, btw.)

Thank you. I liked the old one also because it was original but you wouldn't believe the amount of people who thought it was a bug or something. I really do have to cater to the lowest common denominator.

I much prefer the newer site. I know the old one wasn't a bug, but it kinda looked like one, especially on small screens.

It is beyond me also. Yes in the PRINT section there are a few gay clients but what do you expect when working at a gay mag for 3 years. I still get clients call me to do work for them and I can't see a reason not to.

And as others have mentioned I am at a loss when looking here how someone ignores Microsoft, Pizzahut, freedent gum, VISA, Compaq, Dell and FedEx only sees gay.

But then again everyone here knows what a closet case Chicken is.

It is free so if he really wants it I can have them mail him it bi-weekly.

But there is actually a gay theme magazine in his home town Calgary.

As a totally scientific test to see which one is better, I put in a lyric from my favorite song into both to see which one gave me better results on the first page. Yahoo found three pages with the lyrics. Google found those three and one more. Google wins!

Before I drop it I would like to add:
That is like saying without MacNN nobody would talk to you.

If you would like to prove me wrong add up the number of gay clients to straight. Gay is prob 15% so it is rather insulting of you to say if it wasn't for my gay clients I wouldn't have any work.

Not to mention is it wasn't for gay people you wouldn't have half the TV shows to watch or half the clothes you wear.

The end.
