Well I had some spare time over Christmas break and an old powerbook lying around, so I thought I'd throw this together:

I ripped the display cable on the first PB I had so I bought one for parts for $15, turns out it worked perfectly and had a bigger HD and twice the RAM on the motherboard. I'm running 7.5.3 perfectly and I'm using JPEGView for the slide show. I also found a simple mp3 player so I'm thinking about setting this up as an ambient sound-maker too, like waterfalls and thunderstorms...could be cool. The Apple logo on the side also functions as a powerbutton, I'm expecially proud of that Right now I'm trying to get my compact flash cards working (think you can help? check out my thread in Peripherals) so that the hard drive never has to spin up, then it would be silent. What do you guys think?

Nice job.

For a really nice MP3 player, check out SoundApp. It's the GraphicConverter of sound files. It'll open almost any sound file you can think of. It's an awesome app.

It's also truely one of the only Apps that I REALLY miss from Classic. There's no OS X version of SoundApp.

I want one. With some glow-in-the-dark fish in it. Who wants to make it happen? I have five bucks burning a hole in my wallet!

Thanks guys, I hope my GF likes it, I put it together for her. That's also why I'm hoping to get the CF cards working. I need an easy way to put pictures on it. Right now, I have to crack it open and hook it up to one of my beige G3's in Target Disk mode. I need something better.

What is the yearly electrical bill to run that sucker?

What is the bulb life of LCD's?

That is beautiful. I Love the look of natural wood.

I don't know what it costs, the power supply is 45W, so it's less than a light bulb. And depending on how long I put between picture switches, the hard drive spins down quickly, for less power consumption and heat production. Even if this screen does go bad, I've got a spare one right here, so I'm not worried.
Now I'm just trying to get it to do other cool stuff, like be an alarm clock, or virtual fish tank. Any other ideas?
