I think it would be great if the iTunes Store let bands, artists sell there songs through them. They both make money and get exposure.
Take myspace, but add the financial benefit of it all.
People can sell almost anything else on eBay or Amazon, why not their own music?
It would be cool to buy my friends band album and have that link to other stuff I bought, so when people look at say "U2" they see I also bought "The Knuckle Sandwiches (friend's band old name) too.
What dp you think?

The answer is because musicians are selfish people. Why don't they create a front end on their homepages for people to buy music straight from them?
Answer, they want big record contracts from the big companies and don't give a **** about direct contact with fans.

Because then I could put up Madonna's new album on as my own work and sell it to people. Apple will allow independent artists and independent labels to put up their stuff, it's just a lil more work than you seem to think. They have to make sure what you're selling is actually your own work... well aside from when dealing with the big 4... then they make sure that they have the right to sell works that they really have no claim to aside from the fact that they strong armed creative people into selling them their souls...

Thats the biggest peice of bullshit I have ever read. Most musicians struggle for years on next to nothing. The music and the people they play for is why they do it. The ones that area really good get the labels sucking them up and then it turns into a business and thats when some musicians lose sight of what and why they started out in the first place. I know lots of struggling musicians. And when signed up to labels, only the super stars make any real money. The labels make tons of money off the work of musicians. Its the labels that are the crocks. They are the ones that set the price of music and stuff. Now why would a musician want a label? The exposure.. With out a label there is no exposure. The labels are the ones that put the money up to market the band, to cost to promote the band and take the risk if it sinks or swims. If a artist wants to get out there and be something they need a label to take them in. Think a independant can afford to mass produce cds for all the big stores, the time to make there music and send it off to all the radio stations and the money to make there own music videos? Nope.

They do. Bands can add their music to iTunes. There are even some members on this board who do exactly that.

Apple does allow "normal people" to sell their own music on iTMS, you just have to go through CDBaby.

If Apple did that, they would become a record label. Then they would definitely lose their court case with Apple Corp. Records.

Sorry, but that's not true. All they do is provide a sales channel, that does not a label make.
And as discussed above, it IS possible for artists to get their music into the iTunes store.

I think it's more that Apple doesn't want to be "party to" any issues involving people violating other people's copyrights, plaigarizing and otherwise goofing up music that gets sold on ITMS. By only selling what established labels offer, Apple avoids liability.

Fixiated.

Politicians really love kissing babies too.
Now why would a musician want a label? The exposure..
.....and a big fat ****ing contract and mansion full of whores.

The internet as we see it with shopping carts is 11 years old. A child with enough talent like a modern Mozart can create music and sell it on his site and with effort he can get it known and now have it in iTunes if things were different.
Facts are facts....most musicians are cock suckers who sing over emotional angry, moody or lovey crap to target audiences and want to becomes billionairos from it.

I take it you've never actually heard any music that isn't played on mainstream radio, let alone ever met a musician in person. You probably wouldn't know an independent artist if he punched you in your stupid troll face.

What he said. My brother-in-law had his kids' album on iTunes, through CDBaby. His hit song, "Nose Full of Boogers" used to be the only hit when you searched for "boogers", but he's got competition now!
(BTW, he's also on other services like Rhapsody. But since iTunes only pays when a customer buys a song, while subscription services pay whenever a subscriber streams the song, he gets more money from Rhapsody. That, or maybe Rhapsody users are more interested in boogers.

Look, just because Kelly Clarkson blew you off on that autograph...

I, and others, have said it five times now.
Hopefully this will get the message through:
It is possible for independent artists to sell their music on iTunes. You do not need to be signed by a label, you do not need to be a record company.

My honest heartfelt condolensces to your honest heartfelt emotive lovely independent musician who doesn't care about wealth, drugs and women but likes to punch people in their stupid troll face.

Through a label, CDBaby. Apple only sells songs from labels.

Mostly discrete, not "single-core" IC (though some of that, too), but yeah, lots of analog goodness here.
From the sound of your thoughts, I suspect hollow-body design on your end?

CDBaby is not a "label", in the traditional sense. They do help in distributing music both electronically and in CD format, just like a traditional label, but they do it all on a fee basis, and most importantly they do it with the artist retaining all rights to their music. If you look up "He's My Bear" on iTunes, you will see my brother-in-law's album, copyright by him, with no sign that CDBaby is even involved in the transaction.

http://www.cdbaby.net/dd
Once your CD is registered in the CDBaby system, you can give them additional authorization to submit your CD's to the online services. They format the audio files for each service however they need to, and keep 9% of any payments made.
edit: this time, you beat me to it, analogika!
