This evening I cleaned up the dropped needles from the (real) Christmas tree. Between the ones that got stuck in the carpet and the ones that got stuck in the vacuum, it took a while.

How many of you put yourselves through this?

We did the fake tree this year.. borrow a friends fiber optic one.

I know, tacky.

But it was cool.

real tree, took down last week. hardwood floors, close to the door, a little sweeping and vacuuming, no big. cleaning up needles is easier/faster than putting away the ornaments and lights.

I am alergic to pine tree sap.

So, needless to say, we packed the fake tree up two days after Christmas and put it back into the rafters of the garage.

Now, I don't know what to do with the tree though. Do you drop it off somewhere? Does someone pick it up for you? My first real tree and I have no idea, it's on my back porch naked, but still on its stand.

Where do you live?

In our town the city will pick it up. You have up to a month to put it to the curb and every couple days a pick-up goes around and picks them up and takes them to a composting center.

I do live in a pretty small town though.

I live in Oklahoma City, and unfortunately the garbage man seems to hate me, or maybe he hates everyone. Anyway, I'll have to call the city to figure this one out.

Do you get him a gift or a tip at Christmas?

I always tip/gift the mailperson/sanitation workers. And I must say, I do get excellent service.

And if I have something that crosses the accepted use of their services, for example, if I have too much garbage than what is allowed, I put a few bucks on top/inside or run out and hand them a tool or something that is too good for the garbage or that I don't need.

One guy saw my kegerator and we had a few beers while the guys took a break.

It's the little touches that go a long way.

Well, I've never done anything like that. I'd prefer that the guy be nice first, then I might think about the tipping. Maybe that isn't how we work anymore though.

The guy is really rude, won't even reply if you ask him anything. I know he's not deaf, he listens to "butt rock" loud enough.

I'll think about this though. Is it normal to tip service people like that?

Probably not, but lots of people on here don't think I am "normal".

It's just the way I was raised: A man does a good job for you he should be rewarded.

Finally got around to taking my tree down this morning (been slack). No matter how hard you look, there are always three ornaments that escape detection. Lurker ornaments.

Growing up we always had a real tree. I remember very well all that you mentioned.
