Forum glitch.. I am reposting here...
I know according to this this post/poster the new Mactels are using EFI, but anyone have some further proof/details on this? I'm quite interested in knowing how this works.

So, what does this mean for dual-booting? I'm sure that OS X will work fine with this new loader, but is EFI compatable with Windows and Linux? Has anyone tried installing either, specifically WinXP, on a new Mactel?
Oh, and something interesting I found on Intel's site: (quoted from http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/develope...9568.htm?prn=Y ):
The Framework [aka EFI] can support non-EFI OSs (Microsoft Windows* XP and older). For IA 32 systems, the Framework loads itself above the 1 MB real-mode memory boundary to accommodate an optional Compatibility Support Module (CSM). A CSM is approximately 60 KB of firmware that is specific to each BIOS vendor’s code base. The CSM supplies services to operating systems that do not boot using EFI. It also supports legacy option ROMs on add-in cards.

Do we start up with a CD, target disk mode the same as before, etc? Does it support dual-booting easily, in what way, are there any limitations? And finally, I just want to know in general, theoretically and technically how it compares to our beloved Open-Firmware.

EFI is basically OpenFirmware plus Trusted Computing. At least in theory, you should be able to start up in most of the same ways you could before. However, I wouldn't bet on dual-booting being possible out of the box.
