I want to use my name todd.simon@gmail.com...
It isn't available, no surprise there..
Should I go with todd.simon2@gmail...
Or would the 2 throw people off since it's the same as the @ key. Any other ideas?

You could also incorporate your middle initial, if you have one. That was the only way I could use any variation on my name for my own gmail account.

gmail only allows 0-9 A-Z and . no _ or - makes no sense. I really want toddsimon.com too, but someone has it and the website is GRRRREAT. I've contacted him, he won't give it up or sell it.
