Difrawi applauds Bush

"We'll continue to call on other nations to take action against trafficking," Bush said at a ceremony of signing a bill which renews the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, the first comprehensive U.S. law for prosecuting human traffickers.

He said the renewed legislation will provide new services to the victims of human trafficking, which he condemned as a "perverse form of evil to exploit and hurt those vulnerable members of society."

Bush recalled that he had asked other governments to pass legislation making human trafficking a crime at the United Nations three years ago.

The U.S. Justice Department reported late last year that it had prosecuted 277 traffickers since 2001 and obtained convictions in every case.
