I'm late to the fan club, but dear gods, that is the BEST SHOW EVER. I was practically in tears watching the extras as they explained how the pointy-haired Execs at FOX aired it in the wrong order because they thought that people would like it better if they didn't know what the f*ck was going on; but at least there're jokes and lots of gun fire!
Damn you FOX! YOU SUCK!!!
I watched the episodes in chronological order (not how FOX aired it) and it was perfect. What the hell is wrong with those dumbass network execs?
I got my fix with Serenity, but Joss Whedon said there's not gonna be any more Firefly ever.
Just not fair.

I can't imagine that being helpful for ANY show.

They did it to Clerks and Brisco County, Jr.

When it first aired, I thought that airing a 'flashback' espisode before anything had actually happened was insanely funny. That was ABC, though.

I caught it when Sci-Fi re-ran them from July-October '05 (and captured and made DVDs). I then bought Serenity and got my family hooked (a couple years too late).
I watched the first episode on Fox ("The Train Job"), and, having not followed "Buffy" nor "Angel" didn't have an appreciation of Joss, nor could I embrace the noveau-Western-banjopickin' vibe. My loss.
The characters and interaction is what I love best. Just a tremendous show.

I tried to watch it on Sci-Fi, but I guess I just didn't "get" it. I've never gotten into Buffy or Angel either, but I am a fan of Whedon's writing on Astonishing X-Men (the comic book).

I just got hooked a few weeks ago. Watched them all and then the film.
Great show. It's a real shame it shall be gone.
I wasn't wild about the movie. The characters did not seem true to the series. In the series the captain was a scoundrel with a heart of gold. In the movie, he just seemed mad.
It was good enough though. The last I read Joss Whedon seem to emphatically deny he was done with this world and left a door open for it to be revisited. I certainly hope so.

We've been watching it in dorm this year, it's been really fun to watch em with a bunch of people. It's been a lot of fun. That said I loved the movie. I just really do wish that they'd kept the series going. I did not at all like what they ended up doing in the movie with killing both the Shepherd and Wash! What was up with that? It's like great, now there's no possibility of a sequel... least not with those characters.

That's part of the problem. "The Train Job" is 3rd episode. "Serenity" is the first episode. A lot of people saw the the "first" episode and just didn't get it. "So there're guys in a spaceship robbing a train like a western... that's dumb." ARGH! I hate FOX@
I don't care for Buffy or Angel. Never liked those shows. But Firefly was just brilliant.

welcome to the browncoats ole! we have not given up on a new series, miniseries, or sequel. I'd actually prefer some miniseries to a sequel, more screen time. Joss just has to write wonder woman right now and hasn't any time to be chasing this.
yes, the movie changed some of the dynamic... part of the whole "cramming 9 characters worth of personality plus a storyline into a 2 hour movie" thing. Yet, it is better than no firefly, better than a lot of other things out there, and I enjoyed it.

I've been getting the series on Netflix these past weeks and I love it! The movie got me interested. Fox always does seem to mess around with great programming. *ahem* family guy...

I hadn't seen the TV show, but I thought the film was very good. Interesting treatment of a lot of old movie cliches. I liked the characters and wondereding if I'd really have liked them more if I'd watched the TV show, or if I'd get sick of them. I guess I'll have to buy the DVD set to find out.
