Face transplant victim resumes smoking.

This situation is a disaster.

She got her "face" from another woman who committed suicide...she lost her "face" because she tried to commit suicide and her dog chewed her face off while she was unconscious.

Now she's smoking again even though it endangers her new "face" and health.

What an idiot.

Just read this also: First time out in public and she's apparently taken up drinking again also.

Face transplant victim goes to a bar - accompanied by her psychiatrist.

Way to go doc!

Nicotine is insanely addictive. You see people who are in hospital for smoking related diseases outside for a smoke. I gave up nearly ten years ago, it was without doubt one of the most difficult things I've ever done.

I agree with you, nicotine is crazy. You can have lung cancer, and live or die is the question. You answer it by smoking anyway, essentially choosing death. Very powerful indeed.

Who are we to judge this lady anyway. It's her life and now she has a face, it's her choice now. We can only hope she makes wise ones. What choices are we making in private that are just as horrible, we just don't have reporters following us around.

From the article...

"The trip to central Lyon was part of a process the doctors have organized to help the 38-year-old woman prepare to re-enter society as the world's first person to wear a transplanted face.
One goal is to help her anticipate and react to what friends and other people might say about her new appearance and to adjust to eventual exposure to hordes of photographers and journalists, said Bernard Devauchelle, the surgeon who performed the transplant operation in Amiens with Jean-Michel Dubernard, also a leader of the transplant team, assisting."

It doesn't sound like the reason they were going to out was to party it up and get trashed...

Who knows, who cares? But one thing is certain—she smokes and drinks, so it's best we keep the internet on topic, OK?

Oh, GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK:

They organized a trip to a BAR? There was nowhere else they could go to in PARIS? A BAR?!?

What a bunch of crap.

She's a loser, plain and simple. It's all over the news this morning.

Giving up smoking was the hardest thing she could do?

SHE GAVE IT UP! SHE GAVE IT UP SEVERAL MONTHS AGO WHEN SHE HAD NO LIPS TO SMOKE WITH!

Don't tell us that it was hard for her to stop...SHE HAD STOPPED.

I always laugh at people. They have a heart attack or have to go into the hospital for a long time and they are FORCED to stop smoking. They don't smoke in there.

They have, for all intents and purposes, QUIT.

Then they get out of the hospital and they START smoking again weeks or months later.

WHAT LOSERS.

Culture alert! French bars serve coffee, it's one of the most normal things in life to drink your morning coffee in a bar on the way to work.

Pearls of wisdom from you again, Kevin.

I guess she just wanted a new face so that she could go back to her old destructive and addictive behavior.

Next thing you know she'll have lung cancer and be begging for "a new and untested double lung transplant - the first of it's kind."

Bars are places top be entertained, to be amused, to find love, lose love, throw up, spend all your cash, get beaten up by strange Australians, see a friend make out with a Phillapeno lady boy, to go when feeling depressed, to find a new home, to lose your home, to lose your friend's home, and as always, to forget about life for awhile.

moonmonkey: Quit hijacking the thread. This is about a woman who wanted a new face and now that she has the new face she's taken up smoking and is in danger of losing that new face. Not bars.

How was that hijacking this thread? It doesn't really have a topic. Not a worthwhile one anyway.

THIS lady again!!! I don't even think she should have gotten the face in the first place. Typically, if a person has self-destructive tendencies, or is likely to endanger their new "organ" they wouldn't even be considered for a transplant! That crazy doctor just wanted to be the first to do the surgery, he wanted to go down in history, so he disregarded the rules. And he will, as an idiot!

Very sad, vanity is not the way to happiness. Hope that she will find what she is looking for in life.

Looking forward to a chat today, I have some good news.

Some staggeringly insensitive posts in response to a woman who is obviously suffering severe mental trauma. If I had MY face ripped off then I would probably take up smoking! I don't really think vanity has anything to do with it

Something I don't understand, Cody...

Do you enjoy expressing an opinion when it is a judgement of somebody else's character? I mean, I happen to agree with you here, but stupid people do stupid things all the time. You seem somewhat bothered by this, are you? Do the things stupid people do surprise you? Upset you?

I've long since believed that there are people out there that do stupid things. My beliefs generally don't need reaffirming with stories like this. Am I cynical for thinking this way about people?

Very uncharacteristically grumpy of her.

I can think of funnier things than chronic substance abusers with heart disease.

My POINT is that a lot of physicians and doctors tried to give this woman a second chance in life and what does she do? Something that seriously impedes her healing process and in fact endangers her life.

That's all.

I find it really strange.

That right there is one good reason not to own a dog if you're suicidal.

- - e r i k - - I've seen you be judgemental many times in here.

This thread for example.

If you are going to attack someone from being judgmental, you better make sure your slate is clean.
