Google China
Looks the same to me, but it's censored, apparently.
So, here's a stupid question: If the Chinese use Google.cn why can't they just use Google.com and ask Google to translate into Chinese? Then they wouldn't get the censored version of Google.
Anyone here speak Chinese? Read or write it? If so can do some comparative searches on the Chinese site versus the regular American site?

AFAIK, the Chinese do slow down access to the US based Google servers, so that response times become beyond all bearing. So people from China do access now google.ch, which is a lot faster.

Google removes search results anywhere in the world. They do so in Germany for Nazi-content and they did so in the US for scientology-critical content.

Because Google delivers national versions according to your IP. You can't go to another countries google site. It will automatically forward to the one of your country.

Yes, since most Chinese people speak Swiss fluently.

I presume Google is already "censoring" i.e. selecting what search results you get using their standard US site.
in a few years some new open search engine will eclipse Google... fortunately innovation always happens... Google's censorship will get people to start thinking about a search engine that is not controlled by anyone and doesn't require servers (not possible now, but someday!) etc...
eventually...yes I guess not possible today, but someday!

Yes. Surprisingly, this makes Swiss one of the world's most spoken languages.

In my experience the internet access speeds are pretty good from China if you buy a good ADSL package.
I always use google.com and its very fast (much faster than accessing google from Australia).
And yes, nearly all of the population in the large cities speak Swiss.

Hopefully it will only be temporary.

Maybe it is, but it's rather incomplete - full of holes.

Was it a Rep or Dem congressman? I need to know whether or not I should get emotional over the action.

That's why they believe in Intelligent Design.
