Seems there was a death in the family the night before, and she was the only one able to take care of the rest of the kids. According to the reports, it doesn't seem to be her fault. It's probable that everyone in the vehicle would have died regardless of who was driving.
Just a horrible, horrible thing.

I can't see anything in the two CNN stories about the death in the family, just that the 15 year old was driving around dropping off kids:
Cynthia Mann was at the wheel of the car, said Tina Mann, her aunt.
"Yes, she's 15, she had her learner's permit, she knows how to drive," Mann said.
"Even though she was an under-age driver, it's my understanding she did not cause the accident," she said. "The same thing would have happened had there been an adult in the car with her. We'd just have one more death in the family."
Mann said her niece had just dropped off another child and was taking the rest of the children home "to get ready to go to church when this happened."
But it's still pretty terrible.

Doesn't matter if it was the 15 year olds fault or not WHY is a 15 year old driving around 7 children with a learners permit?

It was in a local report this morning on the radio.

Dunno. It may have even been legal, some states allow for a person with a learner's permit to drive within 5 miles of their home without a licensed driver, provided it's during the day. Or, she could have had a permit with a farm stipulation, meaning she could drive as long as the road is located in between parts of a farm (and provided the areas are within a few miles of each other).

The part that makes a great case for me NOT being religious is that the 7 kids were on the way to church. Perhaps god hates orphans?

Nope, my opinion on the matter. I think the same thing when churches burn to the ground killing tons of people.
I see things like Tsunami's killing hundreds of thousands of children and people "praying" to find them ok.
It is situations like this that DON'T make me a believer. If you find that offensive it is because you agree with it but are trying to focus your anger on me and not the facts.

Uhh, I'm angry? Please only make an attempt to psychoanalyse me if you're any good at it. Anyway, what you're stating is what is often known as the problem of pain, IE why do bad things happen to good people? Of course the problem is that you see thing that we don't like as inherently bad. If those were 7 kids, many Christians would argue all 7 of them are in heaven with God, and having one grand old time. How is that a bad thing?
Beyond that we often assume that because more bad things don't happen to us, we don't deserve them, IE we haven't been bad enough to deserve punishment. But that belief comes about from assuming that everything that you don't like in your life is punishment. Of course that's also not true.
There's a very good song by Switchfoot on their new album called Shadow Proves the Sunshine. Very good song. But quite frankly I figured this whole thing out when I was but a wee lad in high school, so forgive me if I don't find your objection to be terribly credible. Honestly I think my perspective is not exactly a hard one to have. Helps make a lot more sense of life.

Who says the kids were good people? Wasn't the 15 year old breaking the law driving and therefor a sinner? Isn't everyone born into sin? I am sure those kids all did some lying. But ya, like you said, all the kids are in heaven so the parents should be happy, seems the grandfather couldn't wait to party in heaven either.
I don't care what you worship, you can worship an old dirty sock if you want.
I am simply pointing out why I do not want to worship this God or Pray to get things I want for selfish reasons.

It was a terribly tragic incident. The 15 year-old seems to not have been at fault, but people naturally assume her young age had something to do with it. A family has been completely destroyed. Awful. The thing I don't understand is, why did SWG feel it necessary to politicize the thread by using the tragedy to slam religion. Perhaps you should have created a separate thread in the PL to express such sentiments.

You can drive by yourself between the hours of 6 am and 8 pm in South Dakota with a Restricted Permit at age 15. Several years ago the age was 14.
Always kind of scared me.

That, is your problem.
I worship God because He is God. Not for anything I am given.
I guess I am just not as selfish as you are.

Tell me ... does the presence of darkness disprove the existence of light? That's just something to think about. It works the same way with heat. There is no such thing as "cold" -- cold is just an absence of heat.
Who's the say it doesn't work the same with God? When evil/bad happens in the world, it might not necessarily have been "God's doing", but rather the absence of God.

Well, if you didn't, you'd go to hell. So I guess you get something out of it.
So the end result is Heaven. A rather good incentive for a lot of people.

God was calling those family members to be with him. Somehow, I don't think Leia's Left Bun will have such an opportunity.

I don't want to be with a god that kills children in a Tsunami to get the homosexuals.

Personally I find it pretty offensive when tragedies like this happen and religious people just say it was "God's plan" or that "they're happily in Heaven with God."
No. If this was God's plan, it's a pretty f*cking sh*tty plan, and these innocent children are all dead. You guys are just in denial.
So you might find my "slamming" of religion to be offensive, but I find your insistence on wearing blinders and coming up with stupid excuses and explanations equally offensive.

I usually don't comment in non mac-related threads, but this thread is pathetic in light of this sad tragedy.
Leia's comments in particular are inane, and demonstrates a complete lack of maturity and compassion.
What's the phrase for 'diarrhea of the mouth' in a thread???

Oi vey, you're all mixed up it's the uncomfortable straight people who want to get the homosexuals, not necessarily God. Believe it or not He actually loves them. And again you're looking at things from a horribly narrow perspective.
Complaining that a child from the third world dies and goes to never cry, never be sad, never be lonely ever again, never feel hunger ever again, and you have a problem with this?

Yeah I agree. LLB's post seems pretty offensive to me, and I'm not even religious. Not just offensive, but it doesn't make any sense either:

So, instead you derail this thread to satisfy your selfish, and immature behavior. A class act, you are.
In case you hadn't noticed, the thread was about a horrible tragedy that befell an entire family, not about your religious beliefs. Try showing some class once in a while, and act at least somewhat close to your age (unless you really are about 10, in which case your ranting would be explainable).
