"Parents are being warned of the smut industry's effort to make hard-core pornographic imagery available to users of Apple Computer's iPod and similar portable video devices. The popularity of Apple's new video-capable portable technology has driven porn industry providers to introduce iPod-compatible video content. Already there are at least three companies with divisions dedicated solely to adult content for these portable players. According to MacWorld magazine, Apple "already hosts an [adult-oriented] radio show on its own podcast directory."
"Parents need to understand that the porno industry has now declared all-out war on your family and your kids,"
"Parents need to know that they are potentially putting an X-rated porn shop right into their kid's hands when they buy these [portable video players] for them."
I think they also need to send out an advisory that TV's and DVD's can be used for Porn. Heck, TV's should be banned as naked people could appear on those also!

Well it's easy to get hits when you sensationalize. Really, I'd be terribly scared of leaving porn on my iPod, what if I handed it off to someone to listen to a track and they were looking around my movies and there ya go. Then again I regularly have my youth group kids ask me if they can listen to stuff off my iPod haha.

Hmmm.... porn on my iPod you say. Clearly the porn-podcast is the wave of the future. Note to self... invest now.
Also, Forkies, read your blog. Interesting. Very interesting. After spending a summer living around you, much makes sense. Are you and Xeo still together?

The porn industry has driven a number of technologies.
It has been suggested that VCRs, Camcorders, and the internet would not be as advanced as they are if not for the porn industry.
There's a lot of sad people spending a lot of money on porn.

We have a non-nude strip joint in our township.
They strip on a stage and do lap dances but cannot expose genitals or nipples.

Same is true of TVs, VCRs, DVD players. Still, the kids have them. Big deal.

The writer of this article is an idiot. The reason we don't see more dedicated iPod porn sites is precisely because the porn industry is worried that content could fall into the wrong hands and that legislation could follow.
CBC had an article about it some months ago, but I can't find the damn link.

I like it because no one who argues this in articles every bring up the fact that the iPod plays most all video you download, and that duh, there are porn videos online. Its the old "My God, think of the children" argument. Just used for shock and awe.

Parents should be informed. It is up to them on how they plan to deal with the information.

Parents should be informed (or better yet inform themselves), but the iPod part in that editorial is nonsense. The porn industry doesn't magically beam porn onto children's iPods. To get porn onto your iPod you first need to download it from the Internet to your computer. And if children could do that, they could watch the porn right there. No need for an iPod.
Parents who don't buy their kids an iPod because they are scared they will watch porn on it are stupid. Now on the other hand, parents who don't buy their kids an iPod because it's an expensive toy and status symbol that will ruin their hearing, those are the smart parents.
The internet basically is an adult medium and not only for the porn that can be found. Children shouldn't have unsupervised access to it. Period.

Parents need to be warned.
WARNING: Moveable print type may be used to put information onto paper and be distributed to you children and it may contain things you may not like!
WARNING: Pictures are currently being taken of naked people somewhere in the world. Watch out!
WARNING: That digital camera you bought for you child could be used to take photos of him/her or his/her friends doing bad things, or even possibly naked.
WARNING: There is stuff on the internet.
WARNING: The world is full of bad things. Please keep your kids in bunkers at least 20 meters underground, or else some crazy homeless guy will feel them up on the street of your walled off suburb filled with security guards.

They shouldnt have to be informed that a video player can play videos they might not like. Anyway this article sounds like its trying to shock parents rather than tell them any usefull facts.

Nah, it's FUD.
The iPod is nothing special, just a device to play back videos (and music). So they can watch anything they could watch with a computer. Or a TV. But to make a huge issue out of something that is neither new nor original is called FUD.

Did you know there are things you can do with vegetables while you're naked?! We simply cannot allow our children to be exposed to vegetables.

I hear you have a single porn video tucked away in the closet for 'the lonely times.'
And I also hear that you look for reasons to be 'lonely.'
Any truth in it?

Lame-o.
Also, that's certainly not porn, is it?
I just thought "x-rated pornography" was a bit of a redundancy.

Quite frankly SWG there are a lot of people who having porn found on something they own would not be good, and quite frankly if one of my YG kids found any type of porn that'd be a very bad thing for my future in Ministry .
