Pfff, don't forget, it's BB we are talking about. Idiots.
The webdesigner / stock picture designer should be shot.

Wow, isn't there a big $10k prize for getting Windows to work on a MacBook 1st?

P.S. The image is of a PowerBook G4, not a MacBook Pro.

That's got to be a spoof. That looks like Windows 98 on there. Look at the icon for the My Documents briefcase. I bet some graphic design drone is laughing there ass off somewhere for slipping this by the advertising account rep who handles the Besy Buy account.

for ingenious anti-Windows mischief.

I actually think web designers do that on purpose.

Good, considering that is what they are selling.

"Apple® PowerBook® G4 with 17" Display"

You'd think no one here ever heard of Photoshop...

Designers use Macs in ads because they are cooler looking than any PC out there. However, I've seen iMacs running Windows and PCs running OSX. In fact, I saw a new commercial showing a browser window that was IE for OS9 just yesterday. Big whoop.

point being, someone had to purposely put the wrong screen shot in there, I'm sure apple sends promo pix that have the "approved" desktops in em. Why change that?

Did you click the link?

This is not a Mac just “used in an ad”, it’s an ad for a PowerBook G4 that BestBuy are selling.

Whether it was a design drone somewhere, BestBuy’s own web designer, a stock photo provider somewhere, or whoever it was, it’s hilarious.

No, it's because those are what the stock agencies have photos of.

So, showing a cool Apple laptop with Windows OS on it makes it look even cooler than with OS X ?

Actually, that's easily done in real-life. All you have to do is run Virtual PC in full-screen mode, and it would look just like the picture.

Ironically, you can't do that on a MacBook Pro. Virtual PC only works on PowerPC machines (which is what they are selling).

not to be a nit picker but couldn't you run virtual pc through rosetta at a snails pace to get this look? i think virtual pc has black bars down each side on my 15 inch powerbook due to the widescreen-ness (it is an older version though)

but yeppers, its a geh photoshop

Roz sez:

"Virtual PC 7 remains the top emulation software for Mac PowerPC users. However, applications like Virtual PC that are highly dependent on the OS will not run under Rosetta. These types of products require a dedicated team and a lot of work to rebuild them for an entirely new architecture. That said, we know that using Windows-based applications on Macs is important to our customers, and we're working with Apple to figure out the best way to bring this technology to Intel-based Macs. We'll have a better idea once we have the new machines and can accurately evaluate just what is required to transition the product."

Virtual PC will never make it to Intel Macs. There will be hacks out there, and shareware to enable XP on Intel Macs, and that's it. Who in their right mind would give M$ money for that ?

Thing to keep in mind is that Best Buy is run by drunken monkies. I imagine they told the design staff all computers had to have those images on the screens. Best Buy management I don't even think really know they sell Macs.
