Hmmm?

OK since we have so many developers here, as well as people who think they are. Let's start speculating. What do you think we're looking at here? Months or more? And what do you think the products are going to look like? Do you think We'll see Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLife, Fireworks, FreeHand, Dreamweaver and Flash? Or do you think we'll see Photoshop with some features from Fireworks, Dreamwever and Illustrator? I imagine that with the whole switching to universal binaries thing they might chose to end development on some products early...

I'm really hoping I can get at least one more version of Fireworks (not that Macromedia did a good job of late) so that I can have one to keep using for years on my MacBook Pro when ever I get it. As well, I'd personally love to see CoreImage support in Adobe's products... don't imagine we'll see this any time soon though...

So yes... let the speculation begin.

I don't believe we'll see Universal Binaries until the next major release. Which may or may not be some hybrid Adobe/Macromedia suite.

they already have some Adobe/Macromedia bundles, but they're still just the original macromedia programs along with the standard Adobe suites. I assume, come CS3, they'll have tighter integration between all of the programs from both companies.

well, Salty, here you go. An 18 month update period would place a CS3 release in the November '06 vicinity. Quite a while to wait from now, but for pros who are waiting for new PowerMacs (Mac Pros?) anyway, it's not too much longer.

IMHO, the higher end systems will be coming out in 3-6 months... and CS3 3-6 months after that... so by the end of the year, all of Adobe/Quark/Microsoft will be Universal...

this isn't nearly as bad as the OS 9 to OS X switch.

Superchicken,
I though you were through and done with Adobe since they denied you that discount long ago.

I vote never. Adobe will phase out its software for the Mac as Apple phases out PowerPC. The is the end times people!

It's a fine time for someone to build a decent CoreImage/OpenGL based image editor.

Actually... I forgot about that... that's a good reason to pirate software...

Actually I'm still kind of deciding how I feel about that... problem is that they really do control all graphic software now... so the best tools are made by a company that I don't necessarily want to give my money to... grr... I think I'd still pay though... thought I don't want to...

i don't think adobe wis going to lose that much business since all of the pro people are waiting for new Power Macs anyway. the people who jump on the intel imac bandwagon probably don't rely on Adobe to make a living anyway so they can live with slow rosetta photoshop until the new one comes out, anyway. probably won't be that big of a deal.

You really don't need the latest and greatest to run photoshop anyway. Most of the G5 desktops in use now in the design industry will be in use for years to come. Hell, there are still gobs of G4 desktops out there still chugging away.

There is really very little demand for Adobe to release UB patches for existing software right now (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign that is). CS3 will be just fine.

Yeah, the people who need the most speed in Photoshop right now will not be buying iMac Core Duos.

Steve said Photoshop ran kind of clunky on the Mactels, right? I can't imagine it's any worse than running it on a 400 MHz TiBook like I do now.

Why wasn't there an option for "when they're ready"?

I think the Creative Suite 3 will be out around June/July faeturing the last build of GoLive, which in future upgrades will be replaced by Dreamweaver. I'm almost 100% sure it, and all future Adomedia apps, will be DB.

Illustrator and Photoshop will always be two different applications (though you might see a "pro" and a "consumer" versions of those apps, much like in Flash, - which will also be continued as a product, though there might not be a Mac version in the future).

It would only make sense dropping Image Ready for Fireworks, which would make PS the killer application of all time. Freehand is history...

I'm planning on upgrading my system to a MacBook Pro rev. b running CS 3 in early 2007. Life will be good.

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…
