Google has removed the German BMW-website from the index. A search for BMW does not return any results to bmw.de any more.

Has Google too much power or is the ban justified?

They were being asshats and intentionally abusing Google; something I'd expect from a two-bit porn operation not a major corporation.

They were doing this for commercial purposes. That's the same reason Google is doing censorship together with the Chinese government. So who's the bigger "asshat" here?

BMW.

To my knowledge, Google is obeying Chinese law. I hope you would do the same if you ever went to China or you would find your stay rather unpleasant.

BMW used redirects to improve their google ranking. All sites using this technique, and this really is two bit porn site behaviour, will be blacklisted by google.

BMW broke the rules, now they suffer the consequences. Good.
