I think the consensus is that working at the apple store is a good job as far as working in retail goes, but beyond that doesn't have much going for it. Working retail sucks, and even working for a cool company like Apple can't overcome that.

Working at the Apple Store requires about a month to two months of training. Both the Alderwood and University Village Apple Stores have tried to recruit me (they kept calling me while I was in Portland too) but the biggest problem was I wasn't going to be in town long enough for the job once the training was factored in.

I don't know much about pay, but another factor was that I was earning $18 an hour and I couldn't believe the Apple Store would be able to beat that.

Well here is how it goes. I have been working in design for 5 years its getting a bit slow and im about to be made redundant due the company moving premises. So I have always had a passion for macs and all things apple they have vacacies at their flagship store in london and wanted to give it a go. I would be more on the specialist/creative side than retail I think.

People may be a bit quiet about owning up to working in an Applestore.
I believe Applestore employees are not supposed to post on Mac related boards.

I suggest you phone the shop and ask for the name of the Store Manager, be carefull about speaking to the other employees, they might not want the competition.

Drop by the store later that week when its not too busy and ask to speak to "Barry" and tell him you are interested in a position.

I don't really know how they pay, but I'm guessing it's not that much and I have a hard time believing the training- at least product training- is particularly good. I like the employees at our local store, they seem nice, but not once have they ever been able to answer any question I may have had beyond "do you have it and how much does it cost." I'm no genius, but I always seem to know more about the product than they do- and if I have a question, it's usually fairly technical. The basic stuff- which is all they seem to know, I can find out in the new product launch blurb on MacNN. Even stuff I can find out by looking up the specs on the web site they don't know. When I was buying my most recent Mac (PB 15" 1.67) the rep could not tell me the difference between the video cards across the line. It was pretty telling.

Just one example- but there are many,

TTFN.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

I was trying for a Mac Genius but I could only work seasonally so they were looking at having me be a specialist instead.

Well if you do, keep in mind you won't be posting here very often, if at all.
