SO I won a psp on ebay... pretty sweet deal. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT )
japanese version so it doesnt read american UMD movies, but it plays any game. I wasn't going to watch 20$ movies on that thing anyway. and then it had 2 games and I paid 183$ only. and it has the jap version of the screen which is supposedly brighter (anyone?)
so who here can tell me what to expect from the thing?
is ridge racer fun? what about hot shot golf?
I def. want the upcoming syphon filter and liberty city stories... and socom too
gran turismo looks awesome too.
can't wait.
so like.. is it true you can browse the net and check your email? can you install linux on these things yet? what about movie quality? can I use it to watch a Divx or an Xvid (i presume not?)... what about h264? didn't they lock it out, the bastards? any hacks for that? what is the best video quality for transferred movies?
thanks!

Maybe he means "Jewish American Princess."
Seriously, though, why not spend another 0.03 seconds and just spell out the word "Japanese" instead of resorting to a WWII-era slur? "jap." and "def." make you sound like an idiot.

I have the following, and are very good:
Ridge Racer
Virtua Tennis
Lumines
Wipeout Pure
Hot Shots Golf
Madden '06
Get at least a 1GB memory card. I have a 2GB card dedicated to just videos and a 1GB card for game saves, MP3s, and photos.

what are the videos like?
I've spent a whole hour searching for info on it. apparently 2.0 allows AVC (h264) video but limits it to a low rez.... altho low rez AVC is better than low rez MP4, it's still low rez. So what does it look like? blurry at best?
if only Sony wasn't evil.

I don't care how you meant it; I wasn't offended. I'm just saying that abbreviating a word that isn't very long and doesn't have a widely-accepted abbreviation makes you look like an idiot, especially when the abbreviation happens also to be a racial slur. rotflmao brb omg wtf, ok?

porieux it's a racial slur, I know that it was probably meant as an abbreviation though. Canadians and American's are especially sensitive on the subject because of the treatment of American and Canadian Japanese citizens in WWII (ie much like the Nazis with internment camps and such, except we never killed large numbers of them). The term was used in a racist way during this time.
Ambush, the video looks pretty good, no matter what it is. It's a bit tough to read subtitles though. This thing kinda sucks for music, the interface is unintuitive (takes a while to get used to), has no master song shuffle feature like the iPod, doesn't last as long as the iPod, and of course has limited capacity and not compatibility with iTunes. Oh, and there is no linux for these things yet. I think that community just sort of gave up on it.
The only way to check your email at this point is through webmail. Good news however, it works with gmail (I used it on occasion for this feature alone). The browser is very slow however, and will quickly run out of memory to display complicated pages.
I have Hot Shot Golf, it's a very fun game. I also really enjoyed Wipeout Pure.
Be careful about updating your PSPs firmware. If you get a 1.5, or 2.0, you will be able to run emulators and such on it. If however you get the latest firmware, you will not be able to run emulators. There is a hack for GTA, but of course, you have to buy it. The hack allows you to play any of these homebrew applications from within GTA (with the exception of those that were using kernel memory, when they should have been using user mode memory).
I have my PSP on 2.0 firmware. If you are 1.5, upgrading to 2.0 might be good (because you get a browser, and can still run most homebrew). Where can you find the 2.0 upgrade firmware? You'll have to look around, but be careful, there are people who make corrupted versions that will destroy your PSP permanently.
Finally, this is a wonderful site for the homebrew community: PSP News.

Let us all adopt the following abbreviation for "Japanese":
"Knees"
What? Oh...what about "Chinese"?
"Heinies"?

"You rise," he said, "like Aurora."

dude, just chill out, really. Americans had reasons to hate japanese during WW2. And propaganda's OK when at war.
Anyway, stop crying, it's lame. i meant it as an abbreviation and I didn't know it was an american slur.

It used to be a racial slur, but it is not one anymore.
Sure it is. ie. Don't call Japanese people "Japs" because most will be offended by it. It's like calling Pakistani's "Pakis". (P.S. Somebody should have told George... )

The issue is that a LOT of people used the term "Jap" to indicate the Japanese for a long, long time. It became not just an Americanism, but an internationally recognized slur. Recently an old established road with a rich history of amazingly close cooperation between locals of European decent and more recent Japanese immigrants in East Texas had its name changed because people from OUTSIDE the region with no idea of why the road was named "Jap Farm Road" got "insulted. The fact that the road was named a decade before WWII, that it was named in recognition of the agricultural contributions made by the Japanese immigrants (rice farming was already there, but the Japanese brought in traditional-and more effective-methods that made it much better), was glossed over.
That's "reverse cultural sensitivity" if you ask me. It's the same sort of thing that happens when someone wants to ban "Little Black Sambo" because "it's offensive to African Americans." Bull. It's about an INDIAN boy!!! Since when were African Americans exposed to TIGERS? And Sambo wins in the end by being clever and resourceful, so how is this bad?
So you should KNOW that certain words are slurs. For example, does anyone need to say anything more than "the N word" for you to immediately know what they're talking about and why it's a slur? You gotta think before you speak or write sometimes.
