What to get? I am not going to buy a Hi-8 (or shoud I consider it?). I am looking to buy a miniDV camcorder or Hard Drive. What the hell should I buy? I like Sony. My price point is no more than $500US.

what are you going to be using it for? Taping family get together, parties, grass growing? Or using it for school/professional use?

I just bought This.

The list price of $599 should be ignored, I paid $350 which seems to be the going rate.

I bought it mainly becasue is has a lot of features the more well known brands (sony, canon) have adandoned, at least on their moderately priced models. Specifically, I wanted a mic input, an accessory shoe, and top tape loading. I would have preferred a "hot" shoe, but I can live with this.

The piceture is fine, the other features are ok, but to get the stuff I cared about would have cost me 300-500 more from the big boys.

My biggest complaints are the manual cotrol (it's iffy), and the lack of a true wide-screen mode, but for what I'm doing, recording the kids, it's fine.

Another nice and unusal feature is that is has an on-board video light. Not real powerful, only good for 2 meters, but it may come in handy. It's also nice and compact and feels solid
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.
