These have been around for years but this one is more impressive in terms of looks and usability. it doesn't want to be your entire computer it just has a nice interface for common online tasks like email and calendars.

Not to mention it has OSX like Dock and widgets.

I think it's definitely possible that within 5-10 years, the OS could start to get a lot of competition from web-based services. Already the internet has started to replace basic apps.

For instance, I now prefer Windows Live Mail to any traditional app, because it has all of the features I need and loads very quickly on any computer. Google Maps and Wikipedia have replaced the reference apps that I used to buy.

So for me, word processing and media are the only two uses for which there isn't yet a good web-based alternative. It's not a stretch of the imagination to think that Google or MS could offer media and productivity apps accessible through browsers, and then at that point the traditional OS would start to become unimportant to average users.

That would be cool. I would see it happening, though really, bandwith is not there yet.

I checked this out from digg.com...

my conclusion came to this: i already have a good OS. and I need that OS to run firefox. I need firefox to run goowy — so... what does goowy offer to make me want to use it? not much.

I thought These Guys had a good idea, but it looks like they've decided to concentrate on making a video game instead.

Most windows users I know just use hotmail and that's about it. If I was one of those people I would be all over this OS.

Not to mention is is pretty good to use if you are at work as it is not just email but widgets and totally personalized for you. Close the browser and it is all hidden.

I'm happy with Safari. See no reason to switch.

Then it's not an OS. It's just a bunch of online applications.
