the "unexplainable thread" sparked my interest... what's your thoughts about "aliens"?
i believe it's crazy to think that we (earthlings) are the only people out there in the big-wide universe.
my boyfriend has a theory that "aliens" aren't necessarily extra-terrestrial, rather, evolved earthlings time traveling from the future.
what's your stance?

I think they probably exsist somewhere but so far away it will never effect the human race in any way.

I believe in aliens.
I just think the human race is not "evolved" enough to be worthy of consideration by other
sentient life forms in the universe. I forget who said this but I agree with the sentiment.
"The surest sign of intelligent life in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us."
|
|
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Somebody read Sphere.
But that wouldn't ake them aliens (unless he's implying thats what any unexplained phenomena is being caused by).
I believe its an inevitability that some type sentient extra-terrestrial life exists somewhere. The universe is ridiculously vast place. But none of them are here, no.

I'm w/ demibob. It's likely there is life elsewhere in the universe, but doubtful that our lifetimes will ever see the existences.

They could be:
Technically advanced, with ways of getting past that old "speed of light" limits and are visiting us, abducting us, mutilating our cows, messing with our earth defenses, and laughing about us all the way home.
Time travellers living elsewhere that are our distant relatives, coming back to see what earth was like before they moved off the planet, abducting us, mutilating our cows, messing with our earth defenses, and laughing about us all the way home.
our imagination running wild. But what about them cows, the crop circles, and the 3 versions of what happened at Roswell. (which two are lies?)

No doubt there's others out there, I don't think they're visiting us. Most of the close encounter stories are probably a result of sleep paralysis combined with the projection of a new boogeyman archetype, sort of like the goblins and fairies people used to "see".
But I find myself constantly on the verge of giving up that theory everytime I watch Wolf Blitzer. There's something going on there.

For me I believe there are billions of planets that have intelligent life on them. I don't think Aliens are visiting earth on a regular basis though.

Or a parallel universe.
As for life 'out there' we'll never know. Distances are toooo far.
There probably is life on other faraway places. There are an infinite number of stars/suns.

The universe is so big it seems unlikely there isn't life somewhere else.
The universe is so big it seems unlikely we'll ever find any.
The director's cut of "Aliens" sucks, be sure to watch the original theatrical release.

I do believe there is "life" out there, it not might be how we define life.. could be like a virus or something. I really doubt there is intelligent life though..that idea would probably conflict with my religious beliefs anyway.

I've seen a "cigar" ufo with 5 bright lights accompanying it.
edit: after a bit of googling (id seen this pic on the net before)
this is EXACTLY what I saw, but the ship and the lights were separate.

yeah, because with roughly 100 BILLION stars in our galaxy, and roughly 100 BILLION galaxies that we can see so far, we are the only possible intelligent life...makes a lot of sense, right?

I'm a devout Christ Follower and I have no problem with the idea of God making life in other parts of the massive universe He created. I see no contradiction whatsoever with this possibility as it relates to my Faith or Jesus.

Agreed. I dont devote myself to any certain religion, although I do believe in the existence of God. I see no reason why there cannot be a God and alien life both. Having seen what I would consider alien craft after living on military bases for almost 20 years (so yes..I know what planes, blimps, etc look like and how they behave), aliens are 1 up on God in the proof department right now in my book.

So many distinct factors had to occur all at once to produce life on earth. We are the perfect distance away from the sun, we have water, a clear atmosphere.. etc. The fact that humans evolved from single celled creatures is remarkable by itself. But nevermind that, it's amazing that life was generated from non-living matter in the first place.
I don't doubt that there is life on other planets, but I'm skeptical about whether it's intelligent or not. And if it is intelligent, then how intelligent is it? Is it as "smart" as we are.. or does it have the cognitive ability of a dolphin?

yes. I'm aware of the various conditions required for life, there is a well known scientific formula for it (I forget the name), which considers most factors in general and (if I remember correctly) says our galaxy alone should have hundreds of species of intelligent life. I have no problem with any of that, the only issue you have is how many of those species are advanced enough to not only be space faring, but totally dominate physics for space travel through things like worm holes, folding space, 'sub space', etc. THAT is the number that would be remarkably low.
Having seen what I personally have seen, I believe that number is at least 1
Once you see something REALLY good, in person, you will not forget it, and you will know that it cannot be confused with 'secret military experiments' which tends to be everyones favorite answer.

What of it? I believe the earth is really freaking old and I believe there were dinosaurs all over it for long time.
Further, what's that got to do with God and jesus?

That's just an STD test. Human penis is considered a delicacy known to increase sexual vitality in many species. We're not considered intelligent life.
We're not even sure where life on earth came from. But if it can happen once, it can happen again (from a different source or sometimes possibly from the same source.) Especially considering the trillions and trillions of chances there are out there for life. I wish I could be alive when one day humans do make contact with another species. Will they even have religion, and if so will they have the same gods, and if not will they kill us, convert us, or both? A lot of questions will be answered that day.

How did you read "I dont devote myself to any certain religion, although I do believe in the existence of God."
and think "he is a fundamentalist Christian who believes in a literal interpretation of their bible"?
