Just a thought... With all the comments on the special announcements this week being a bit poor, some people have asked the question, did it warrant a media event.
If I remember correctly there were initial rumours of an event, which were categorically denied, and then announced again.
I just wonder if Apple had intentions of announcing something a little more special than an iPod speaker, and had to delay the announcement?

I think your reading way too much into the non-event. For what ever reason mac-nation got its panties in a bind over this special announcement. I saw posts for a true touch screen video ipod, a new desktop computer, and of course an oldy but a goody an apple pda.
There was nothing apple could do to live up to those unrealistic expectations.

I still think we'll see the touch screen iPod in the future, perhaps it wasn't ready yet or perhaps it will be released after Microsoft release their weird little thingamy - Steve doesn't want all his thunder taken by Bill.

That's what people say about every announcement. It's just BS.

Personally I agree with the analysts. This was largely a non-event, and didn't deserve a special invite-only presentation to the media.

What were they thinking????
small event to get lots of attention on little stuff I guess.
The Mac Mini is still atractive (even though not perfect).

Apple devoted a media event to this but only quietly released the DC and QC G5s. Maybe Jobs has one of these things attached.

It's more the fact that Apple put a lot of mystery in their invitation, and that they hinted that it would had something "funny". A boombox may be used to have fun, but I wouldn't alert the media for this...
Many media this morning warned Apple that they could lose interest if they keep doing this kind of stunt. Didn't they read the story about the kid who cried wolf?
