The funny thing is, the original Mac couldn't handle the scope of that demo, so the demo Mac was actually a Mac 512K.

Steve Jobs, ever The Showman. I wonder sometimes where Apple would be today if he hadn't come back in '97.

Nice video... Funny that the text-to-speech converter in OS X now doesn't really sound any better than it did 22 years ago

Yeah, I personally believe the original Mac's version of Fred sounded better than the one we ended up with. The story of the original Mac's speech synthesizer software and MacInTalk Pro is pretty interesting - tooki and others have written about it.

An awesome video to watch.

Great video.

Although something tells me that if MacNN were around in 1984, people would be whining about the lack of colour or something like that.

You have to consider that, aside from the great showmanship, it wasn't just the announcement of a product: it was the de facto birth of the modern computer as we know it. That Mac spawned the industry that keeps many of us here employed. Without the Mac, who knows how much longer it would have been before the GUI caught on. We might still be using command-lines today, and the computer might not sit on every desk.

That keynote was an absolutely pivotal moment in computing history, and as such, a pivotal moment in society.

That is great but the there is a video of Steve Jobs showcasing the NEXT Box that is amazing. So much of that technology seemed so far ahead of its time. Anybody have this video. He showcases some app called "library" that would catalog all the PDF on a network and create a searchable database out of them. It was amazing to watch and more amazing to think that is was like 1995.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?
