What in the world is wrong with whoever thinks this looks good. It looks like it lay on a bathroom floor for a month and they call it "More colourful".
The copy protection on it is also behind most of the rest of the world.
American money actually looked better before and that isn't saying much.

Most of the things you have problems with are there intentionally for anti-counterfeiting reasons. get over it.
as for "The copy protection on it is also behind most of the rest of the world."
I think the point is you dont KNOW what all is contained on the bill for that purpose.

Both the new notes and the older-design notes will continue to be legal currency at full face value. The U.S. has never devalued its currency and will not do so now."
so the old ones will never be unusable... why try to make the new ones?
Because the old ones are removed from circulation over time by banks.

Seeing as how I like it, I think I've discovered a new test for gayness and straightness. Quick, someone ask Salty what he thinks of the new $10 bill!

thats usually common when seeing completly flat money. you usually see it after its been out in circulation for a while and its a lil bunchy. straight out of the press money always looks slightly longer than on the street for a while money.

Actually, I think any thread earlier than 2005 needs to be moved to the Archives section.

Oh stop playing mod. I remember a thread on this topic before so I did a search for it and found this thread rather than starting a new one, that is the way it should be done.
And while you are calling tooki, weren't you banned?

I like it color-wise - but I think the design is wayy too busy. Too much going on - especially in the 'We the People' quadrant where it lies underneath the word 'Ten' and that symbol. My god - could they have layered any more text and symbols on top of one another?

As long as the weed dealers still accept it I couldn't care less what it looks like.
(though the "We the People" is indeed very tacky)

For the longest time, U.S. currency was generally considered the ugliest currency. We've outdone ourselves by making it even uglier. America, F*CK YEAH!

Woot!
In my fantasy land, the world currency looks a lot like those little prize tickets you get from skeet-ball machines at Chuckie Cheeses. In fact, you earn your money by playing skeet-ball. And a man is measured by his highest skeet-ball score.

i couldn't care less what the bills looks like, as money is one of the last places that form should precede function. and here, the function is to keep it's value.

I would hate to be so shallow I cared about what the money actually looks like.
Having said that, I like it. Money can be cool, if not put on a pedestal.

America has a global responsibility to make these notes hard to counterfeit, I like the idea of all US currency being green, but it really is about time they caught up with he rest of the world with anti-fraud technology.

Actually one of the main issues with American money is that it is hard to tell one bill from the next, especially for people with poor vision.
This new bill doesn't help, and it is incredibly ugly.

You know, living in America for the 33 years I have, the ONLY people I have heard complain about not being able to tell them apart have been Canadians. And both have been in this forum.
Funny how Americans have no problems. There are these things called numbers. And design. Each bill has a different number and design on it.
You should check it out
And some of Canada's money is cool, while some is good awefully scary.
Esp the one with "BIG BROTHER" on the front.

my thoughts exactly, but as SWG pointed out some visually impaired ppl can't spend them, so that should be fixed (if it really is a problem). other than that, it could have a cartoon pic of GW's ass & i wouldn't care.

Wrong. We have a rule against resurrecting ancient threads. You'd best read and learn our rules before you start professing to others.
Anyhow, folks, the rules clearly state not to resurrect ancient threads, the rule of thumb being about 6 months. This clearly violated that by a very wide margin.
[this thread was originally replies to Mann... The new $50 bill is ugly!

That would be kind of silly. If nobody knows about the anti-counterfeiting features then they wouldn't help keeping forged money from being circulated.

Why, by using crude workarounds like folding the corners?
Look at Swiss bills: they have embossed symbols for each denomination, plus each denomination is a different length and an entirely different color. That makes it much easier for those with little or no vision to differentiate them and make sure they're not being short-changed.

Yup, the new bill is FUGLY. What were you expecting though? US cash has always been fugly, and the new $20 certainly didn't change that tradition.

I wouldn't live at a place that had to worry about people short-changing the blind. :/
And no, he doesn't fold it, he just keeps track of it.

I didn't say it happened often (ever?). AFAIK it's just a precautionary measure.
"Keeping track of it"? That's good, until someone gives you a couple of bills. I'd hate to have to ask "would you please give me the 10s now? ok, now the 5s, ok, now the 1s. thanks"

What he does do is takes the money, then later asks someone he trusts what they are, and puts them in order and remembers them.
Luckily he doesn't have lowlifes around him.
But yeah, it would be nice if there was a way blind people could do so on their own. I agree. I'd be more concerned with that than the "look"

I like the "We Ten eople"! Other countries tend to have much better looking currencies, ours is very plain and conservative. But I rarely carry cash anymore, it's all debit card nowdays.

If only they'd speed up the process of implementing the smart card as a widespread mean of payment.. In Europe, they even use it for medical care! Blind people's wallets would speak to them the amount of the transaction as well as the balance.
Back on topic, I must say that the Canadian currency stands pretty good in terms of accessibility and security. 20$ bills and higher have holograms in them, and all denominations have a braille-like embossing for the vision impaired, as well as being of a different color.
Bank of Canada page about security ( interesting details).
Bank of Canada page about accessibility.
Representative picture of all current Canadian bills.
An interesting finding I made while visiting the accessibility page, is that they provide a bank note reader that can help the user to determine the denomination, either by voice (French or English), by a tone or a vibration!
