A friend loaned me the 7 seasons of Ranma 1/2, for which I had curiousity since 1997 but never watched it because: a) did not have the money to buy the DVDs, b) when it aired in Peru, I had already moved to the U.S., and c) I didn't join any anime club (for my sanity).
I never watch any anime since I have not had a TV with cable since 1999. I watched all Ranma 1/2 seasons in the last 2 months, and now I feel that I have satisifed my anime craving.
However, what should I line up for next? I don't want to waste my time like I did when I was a Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon follower. I know I want to watch the entire Evangelion and Robotech, since I enjoyed a few aired episodes back in the eighties.
Suggestions?
Please refrain from magical girls, pet collectors, child heros, or anything deformed.
Technology fiction, romantic/sexual innuendos, humor would be great.

Rurouni Kenshin.
It's about a Samurai who is trying to repay his sins from an earlier time. It's a nice balance of romance, humor and dram. Of the hundred or so animes I've seen it's one of the best.
There is a 99 episode (or some number like that) series, and there is a short 4-5 episode series. The short one details his bloody earlier life. The long series is about his peaceful times and is the one I am talking about. Both are highly recommended though.
Oh, and for a short recent, lesser known series: I recently watched Honey and Clover. It's a loose story about a bunch of university art students. There is no main character, instead it focuses on the relationships between them. Lots of good humor. I was able to relate with these characters.
Finally, you may enjoy Full Metal Alchemist. It's about two young alchemist trying to find the philosophers stone. It's one of the more popular animes around.
You will not be able to download FMA, or Rurouni Kenshin legally, but you can legally download Honey and Clover from http://animesuki.com. Click the anime header at the top, and then select series.

Last Exile is good. Full Metal Alchemist is great too.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is great for action Technology stuff.
Samurai 7 Kicks ass, so does Samurai Champloo.
I am also enjoying Bleach, though I don't think its of the greatest quality
