The housing of the front and back ends of my CRT TV (where a natural joint has come loose) have separated a bit. I've sealed it with Gorilla tape to keep it from separating any further when moving it. Assuming the TV works okay and exhibits no other strange behavior, is it still safe to operate? Or am I totally nuking myself?

if it's the glass thats cracked the tube may have lost it's vacuum... which is bad... but if it's just the plastic or whatever molding around the glass then you dont have any worries...

i don't think plastic is a decent shielding even if it was sealed, so it shouldn't be any worse than normal.

Well, the picture is fine and I don't see any cracks in the glass.

Nah, you're fine. You only need to be worried if the CRT itself is cracked/damage, but if that were the case, I doubt it'd be working normally.
Just make sure the housing is still strong enough to support the CRT so the thing doesn't collapse. Or use this as an excuse to get an HDTV

It's the leaded glass of the tube that provides the vast majority of the shielding from the tube's radiation. The rest of the case is shielded to prevent other EM leakage, but that'll just be to be compliant with regulations.
If you're really worried, just cover the gap with some metalized duct tape (the kind that really is intended for use on air conditioning ducts) from the hardware store. The metal foil will act as shielding. (I don't think it matters what metal it's made from, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Its fine, the main danger from crts is not radiation but the vacuum causing an implosion, Be Very careful not to crack the glass, contained within is a very high voltage high current electrical charge(of course the glass is much thicker than a window) If its working fine there isn't any reason to be worried.

Wow it's totally Wednesday. I stared blankly at this thread trying to figure out what a "CRT TV" was. And then I felt really dumb.

Yes, it will kill you.
Not now, but at the latest 100 years from now.
