Heinz; no other ketchup is allowed with in a 100 ft of my house!

Heinz goes well with grilled cheeses and pepperoncini's on multigrain. So I get Heinz. If there were a Guinness catsup, I'd get that. Heinz has a great curry catsup too.

The only thing Heinz has going for it is good marketing, IMO.

B. Del Monte tastes best. They use pineapple juice in it and it has a very nice, subtle taste difference. Try both, side by side and you'll see.

But more often than not I buy store brand. Though Del Monte is nice, it's not worth the extra few pennies. It's basically all the same.

Which SALT is best? Which SUGAR is best? Which Black Pepper is best? What's the diff?

In fact, sometimes I use spaghetti sauce as catsup/ketchup if I run out of the real thing.

I agree, I secretly like the really cheap vinigary ketchup you only get in greasy cafe's in England and Australia.

I recall diners like that and ketchups like that from my wayward youth. Rough, smoky places with dangerous smells in the air and vinegary ketchup on every table.

I have too much respect for food to put something like ketchup on it. Dijon mustard is the furthest I go.

This only happened in Europe after the tomato blight of 1700's, mayonaise was developed as cheap alternative by some french guy commissioned by Napoleon.

Thankfully supplies of ketchup have resumed into Europe so there really is no reason to continue punishing yourselves.

Of course! Freshly made from real potatoes not the stuff you buy outdoors cooked in lard and old oil. I like them plain or with light sprinkle of red chili powder.

Homemade ketchup is easy to make. Olive oil, tomato puree, one knob butter in a saucepan. Heat and stir gently. Add little salt and sugar and if you want herbs and spices of your choice. You can serve it warm or cold.

Heinz is the best ketchup, but I prefer mayo on my fries. I get funny looks, living in america and eating mayo on fries.

Gewürztraminer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gewürztraminer, sometimes referred to as Gewürz or Traminer, is a white wine grape variety that performs best in cooler climates. It is known for its spicy characteristics.

The name literally means spice from Tramin. This refers to the fact that the wine was made in Tramin (South Tyrol, northern Italy) and that the grape has a spicy flavour.

It is now typically grown in the Alsace region of France, Germany, California, the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia Canada, Caddo County, Oklahoma, and the Finger Lakes Region of New York.

The characteristic of the wine, rather than any specific spice, is that there is a strong smell of lychees on the bouquet. This characteristic aroma means that Gewürztraminer is classified as an aromatic wine grape. As such it is one of the few wines that is suitable to be enjoyed with curry and other Asian foods. It also goes well with Muenster cheese.
It is believed to be related to Viognier, another aromatic grape.

No. "Gewürz" just means spices in German.

The Gewürztraminer is a white-wine grape from Europe, popular in Elsace (France) and Germany.

The Gewürz ketchup does NOT consist wine, but has a special spice mix that makes it very special.

i prefer a brand that doesnt have corn syrup/high fructose corn syrup as a main ingredient, so i usually go to the "hippy" side of the grocery store and get something from over there.

Wow, all this mayo on fries talk! I like to mix malt vinegar and ketchup for fry dipping. Then pour more malt vinegar over the fries themselves. mmm

Are there any stores in the US that carry that Curry Gewurtz Ketchup?

I don't know about major chains, but my local German store / restaurant has it.
Check your area if it has some German deli / groceries / market.

I agree for the most part. I will put ketchup (catsup?) on a plain burger or french fries. I prefer a good malt vinegar on my fries. My family is picky about ketchup and only uses Heinz at home.

A good burger, fixed many ways, should not need any condiment.
